A Reef in the Sky

I have noticed that my sand is getting cleaner and cleaner with time. There was some sludge, algae on the sand some time ago but ZZ appears to have helped break it up. I have just ordered some more products with one being Coral Snow. I have been told that mixing dissolved ZZ [1/4tsp] with some tank water (0.5L) then mixing 2ml of PCS for a minute with it, then dose the mixture into the display, will 'clean'[white] my sand. So I'm looking forward to trying it.

ZZ is rather pricey but so far appears to be doing a good job. Here is a list of some other products I ordered (new and replacements). Will be trying to tweak some corals colours if I'm lucky.

Iron Concentrate 50ml
KZ Coral Snow 250ml
Pohl's B-Balance 250ml
ZEOstart2 250ml
PotassiumIodide Fluoride 50ml
ZEObak 50ml

Hope that helps

Cheers mate  you're gonna love PCS. I've used it on about 4 different systems which didn't run ZEO and the effect is profound - I can only imagine what it'd do on a system which is running the whole gamut. I'm glad to say I've never really ran into the sandbed problem in them though, lots of snails and stuff with a buttload of flow sees mine pretty clean.. :lolspin:

Your coral update is making me more and more excited to have a tank again. The colours you're getting out of your SPS are insane and truly a credit to just how well built this system is.

V1 better each day. Witch specie is these one?

Looks like a Tenius to me.

Just wanted to ask buddy, what are those sludges on the sand? Are they algae? I have some of them on my sand too but just much more concentrated than yours. When you have free time, can you please take a closer pic of your sand? Thanks MUCHO buddy!

Greatful as always,

Vic

EDIT: just read a previous post of yours, sludges are in fact algae. i have the same problem with mine lol i really want to get rid of them lol. FWIW, ive been dosing the zz fermented for 8-10hrs in a lidded container then afterwards add bak soak for another 15-30 minutes then dose with skimmer turned off for 1-2hrs. they only helped a little. would try your zz + pcs with skimmer off every other day for a week to see how it works.

keep us posted with your zz regimen too.

everything about it (build , set-up and corals) is mindblowing , well done !!!

greetingzz tntneon :)

Hahaha... looks like you took my advice on the clams! :)

The one on the right looks similar to my crocea clam (tan and turqoise spots on a blue/black background)... VERY NICE.

Hi may i ask how do you secure your flex pvc tubing to your standpipes, what i see, they are inserted into the inner diameter rather than via the outer diameter.

Won't the pressure force the hose out when your return pumps are on?

Thank you for the kind words. I am using the Canon Macro 100mm 'L' model lense. I'm overseas at the moment so will let you know some of the settings when I get back. Most are taken in Av mode.

GHL Computer & Dosing

I have been getting some inquires here and abroad regarding my GHL computer/dosing unit asking whether I am happy with it.

To be 100% honest, I love it!!

The amount of programming options/settings are simply unbelievable. It can do a lot more than I ever thought and will keep me entertained/busy for sometime. IMO the only area that can be improved is the difficult to understand manual. Since it is translated from German, the use of English and its layout can test the best of us. Fortunately there are some great support forums out there. Here are two...

This has been a basic example of what this awesome computer can do. Much more info can be found at the forums above. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Hope it helps those of you that were looking at the gadget.

Hello Andrew, forgive me if it bothers you here .....
I would kindly ask you, could you give me a list of all the accessories you GHL? I am interested in buying the computer, and I intend to buy several things .... you could give me a detailed list of what you've got? because you know you are my reference point and do not know what to buy if the Profilux 3 or 2 with your list I would choose the easier ....
Thanks as always !!!!! You're very kind!

Yeah we moved there back in 1973 and I left in 1997, seen all the changes and the handover. I still have my permanent residency. Too bad I got the reef bug after I left HKG. I do go back every couple of years to keep my visa. I'll give you a shout when I'm there next. Or you can always call me if you are in Dubai. Atlantis is awesome.
Wow... that's awesome. Shame about the delay in catching the reef bug. Let me know when your next in town and I can guarantee that we'll be heading back to the U.A.E.

Thanks Rodrigo... I believe the others have answered your question. I did not know until the help of others. Funny, when I bought that coral... there was no sign of blue tips. Placed it in the tank and it seemed to like it. So it hasn't moved for 4 months!

Hi V1,

Great shoots!!!
Very colourful corals, i hope to get something like that in my new tank.

Seems like a Acropora tenuis:reading:
Thank you Ricardo... I am sure you will succeed.

No worries... I'm looking forward to trying it out. I put my current troubles with the sand bed colour down to the delay in acquiring snails. They are doing a great job but now I'm seeing detritus which has been broken down appearing on the surface in areas.

The colours are certainly 'blooming'... just have to keep everything stable. Be sure to start a thread on your new tank!!

awesome pics man
Cheers bro!!

Great, as always
Thanks happy

Looks like a Tenius to me.
You the man Clint! I still need ID's on other corals too :rolleye1:

Ohlala what is this? Fishy likey!
It's nice isn't it? What's funny is that it came as a hitchhiker on another coral I bought just out of the picture. Actually, two hitchhikers are on the coral rock. The other is a birds-nest at the back.
As for what it the encrusting coral is... not sure?

Hey Vic, thanks for the info. Looking forward to trying the PCS. I will certainly post some pics once I get home.
From what I understand and see, the sand actually doesn't contain any sludge/algae. Instead, the sand is stained a slight brown colour hence giving the appearance. There are some very small pieces of detritus amongst the sand which constantly moves back and forward from the current. Vacuuming it out helps but I must take it slowly.

I've been following the various ZZ questions on the zeovit forum regarding letting it sit for 10mins or 8 hours plus should the skimmer be on or off. I have been mixing 1/4 tea spoon of ZZ and 0.5L tank water, then letting is set for 8 hours before pouring into the sump. I've increased this to twice a week now.

your tank is simply amazing.
TOTM should recognize it as tank of the year!
f.
Thank you Felix for the compliment

You are a reef artist.

Beautiful setup!
Thank you adddo.

I wish I can get this kind of beautiful colorful corals from my place. unfortunately our LFS doesn't no know what is corals...
:hammer: What a shame.

Yep, your advice paid off. I might still get a few more too.

Voted!!!

Love your tank! total inspiation
Cheers... thank for voting!

That's correct... they are inserted inside. That's how they are designed to be connected. No problems so far. There was also adequate time for drying.

Andrew you need sales comission from GHL:smokin:

Told you those clams are addicting :D

They come in so many different colors and patterns... I've got 4 right now, but I'm keeping an eye out for a really nice looking "tear-drop" patterned Maxima right now...
