Update

Back from holidays... tank is going well. I had some time this evening to take some pictures. More on the way.

Showing inside the cabinet at night time. I have fitted some LEDs that are programmed to come on at night. Pretty cool effect

The LEDs in the cabinet also create a cool effect for the display tank. I'll take some pics of that soon.

Otherwise nearly everything is complete with the setup.

Thanks for all the interest and support!!

wow Andrew...just cool...

Now i am confused where to stare at....your super cool display tank or that dreamy LED lit sump....masterclass bro...

Just one doubt...is there any particular reason that you are keeping the chiller outside?

I have a chiller, http://reefcentral.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2022954&page=4
i am planning to install it outside the cabinet, next to the tank just like what you have done, since i have no space inside my main cabinet. I was thinking to make a small cabinet next to the main tank stand and seat the chiller within it....
what would you think is best...leave it in open or keep in a cabinet?

Very late replies to questions asked... Sorry!

Looking great.

Do you find a chiller next to the tank is too noisy or produces too much heat???
All chillers produce noise and this one is fine. Infact the MP40W ES is louder. I upgraded to the largest chiller model... something I should have done as suggested by others last year. It is certainly more efficient. We have the air conditioning on in summer so having the chiller outside the cabinet is better.

looking good!

I am so happy that updates continue!Your work is always inspirational and top notch to say the least?

Was your previous stand powder coated?
As fas as I can understande you have skened also the inside of this stand so no metal is in direct contact with the saltyness?
Thanks very much... unfortunately the updates aren't as frequent though.
The previous stand was meant to be powder coated but it wasn't. The new stand is powder coated plus NO metal is exposed at all. I had a BIG problem with rust on the white tile floor at the old apartment but I should not have it now as there is wood between the floor and metal stand.

I have a picture I can post of the mess left on the tiles. Luckily we managed to clean it.

so where are you holding your fish and corals ? or did you give them all away till this is up again ?

It seems like you are going to use new rock and sand and cycle the tank again right ?
The fish and corals were held in large containers with daily water changes. It was a very difficult process to successfully transfer them over and as a result I lost a number of corals. I really needed to put them in an established tank with proper lighting, filtration and flow. Unfortunately time was against me as everything needed to be done before a certain time period.

There was a disaster one night for the fish in the holding tank. We lost all but one Bartlett, x2 female Lyretails and the Flame Wrasse. From memory, one of the fish was sucked into one of the pumps and polluted the water over night. Very upsetting. We would have lost more if it was not for the effort of the misses removing the remaining alive fish and place them in a new container before they suffered.

I new sand (KZ aragonite) and reused the live rock. The amount of rock I previously had has been dramatically reduced giving a much more open space. I also managed to remove the two large crabs that I couldn't catch as mentioned a few pages back.

Do you have any problems with the weight of the glass ATO container when you're refilling it.
None at all. From memory the glass thickness is 8mm all around so it is certainly strong enough.

I have been checking out your thread from time to time. Everything appears to be great. Well done!

There are three reasons why the chiller unit is placed outside the cabinet.
1. No space inside
2. It runs more efficiently outside than inside the cabinet
3. I can glance at the temperature reading instantly while walking past to check if the temperature is good.

Therefore, if you have the space I would recommend placing it outside the cabinet.

Hope that helps

How are the doors on the new stand attached? I see there are some magnets in place now.
Yes they are attached by magnets at the top and bottom. I will take some photos to show you when I give an update.

I'm on a trip at the moment and am glad to report the tank has been going well. It is up to Day 44 (I think). No new corals have been added as I haven't been shopping yet. The surviving SPS corals are colouring up nicely (but it does take time).
There are a total of 11 fish now (the survivors) and I will not add anymore as I believe I got carried away last year with adding too many.

Again, thank you for following along and all the well wishes. Feel free to ask questions and I will answer them much quicker from now on!

Thanks so much for your kind compliments for my tank build...:) Thats an honour :)

I am so sorry to hear about your coral and fish loses...:sad1:
Cant wait to see how your "new" aquascape and corals are doing in your tank....we are all sure you will bounce :bounce3: back even better.

I have installed my chiller just the way you have, just beside my tank cabinet. I too felt it would run more efficently when in open than in a closed cabinet.
Thanks a lot for taking time to visit my thread and also for answering my queries.

Waiting to see updated pics of your tank... :)

Happy Reefing

Sorry to hear about the losses ! its inevitable in these cases ... I too lost many corals when moving ... but I am sure you will be back in business in no time :) would love to see some updated pics :)

Equipment Pics

I am much happier with this setup inside the cabinet than the previous. Everything is connected and running smoothly.

You can see the LED's on the ceiling of the cabinet. They were what I previously had on the electric light lifter.
IMG_8717.jpg

This shows how the doors attach to the cabinet. The picture is for fellow reefer CubiX Hope that answers your question.

Showing how the plumbing is modified from the previous setup. The gate valves help control the flow much more easily.

The electrical control section... ORGANIZED!!

Finally some aquarium pics

This is the view you see when walking in the front door. The corals on the island are recovering and colouring up nicely.
IMG_8743.jpg

New rock-scape... The flow is much better and the fish enjoy the extra space... for now.

Everybody enjoys a day out at the island

Thanks for looking

Very amazing peace of work. Everything looks very neath.

I do have a quick question, what is your evaporation rate with an open tank? How many liters or gallons per day?

Holy crap Andrew, you've gone from strength to strength - something that seems pretty uncommon after a tank move. The new 'scape looks awesome and the new cabinet work is much more functional! Good stuff :)

Ahhh at last some pictures:celeb1:

And what can I say, amazing clean setup, I love it.

How many litres of RO water does the ro container hold?

Just MASTERCLASS....:smokin:

Its so well organized...

The electrical board does resemble the instrument panel in the cockpit of an aircraft...Now we know where you got your inspiration from :lol2:

Your organizational skills is my inpiration to get things as organized as possible in my build.

The islands looks so cool and im sure its prime real estate now :)

Happy Reefing!!
