A Reef in the Sky

this build is absolutely AMAZING!

The vid looks great and that light lifter is just plain awesome!

Looks like something right out of Austin Powers! Now all you need is sharks with frickin lasers! Very sweet setup!

Hooked on this build thread! I cannot wait to see more progress! WOW!

:lol: Thanks Vic... Yeah, the winch is from them and it comes in various sizes. I gave them my plans/sketches and selected the colour I wanted.

The hanging cords will be cleaned up later on. Now I'm burning in the lights (100hours) before I start playing around with the dimming functions.

whoa! dont get me started about it coming in various sizes :D:D just showed your vid to my wife and she's asking me if i could do that to my system too.

im loving your system and its not even complete yet! :)

I've been through this entire thread so perhaps I missed the information.

Where can we find the info on how to order that electric light lifter?

If I did miss it, maybe simply tell me the page # or post #?

Many thanks.

Tempset, I believe he did not post it here but he did tell me who and where in hong kong he bought it from in his pm. You might just want to pm Andrew so he could give you the phone number of Tak/Mimi

No problem Tempset. The lifter was not found by me but by my tank builders. It comes from China and I have no links available however I would be happy to pass on the contact details via PM for you.

What a great build! I think I'll join the fun.

For those with more know-how than me, you might try looking up "tubular motor"... I'm pretty sure that's what it is, but I don't know how to implement for a light fixture. Would be very cool!

Thanks Robo, jackson6745 and MentalNote

Just an update... Everything is finished but needs to be checked before it's shipped, just in case something is not correct. However there will be a delay due to CNY and my work commitments. If all is okay with the tank it will be delivered before the end of the month. Finally...

yes the lifter is a tubular motor. Finding one is not hard. It's the one that has grooved wire guides, which is what we need, that is impossible to locate on a non-industrial scale.

Very NICE! I am tagging along on this one for a DIY version.

More pictures & a video

The light box is exactly how I wanted it to look. Very happy so far :D

All my calculations worked out... the wire fits through the holes
