A Reef Tank in the Desert - +/- 1,400 gallon system

Man that sucks about the Idol. I don't know if you hear this but considering you have a large enough system it might not affect you. I hear that they are cool together until the dominant one takes over. From the experience of other reefers that did somewhat you did, they say one only ends up living in the end.

Dan your tank IS looking great

Thanks David!

I feel like everything is on cruise control!

While it can be a good feeling, I am still pretty anal and am checking my parameters three times per week. I am glad that you have found time to update your pics and to not be a stranger on the forum!

This are some healthy looking tangs, I would love to have one in my rimless but it would be to small for one.

Genesis Auto Water Changing System

Genesis Auto Water Changing System

So, I am already thinking ahead to the summer months when I will be away for five weeks at a time.

I've been looking at the Genesis Reef Systems, Renew Automatic Water Change System. I have been doing a lot of research on the boards and have been corresponding with Kevin, from Genesis.

One concern is that I will be needing to drain the metering reservoir (1 gallon) through a 1/4" drain. The Genesis system only gives me 120 seconds to do so before the system shuts down and waits for user intervention. My other choice will be dumping into a larger bucket and using an aqua lifter or small sump to drain. I am wanting to set things up to automatically change 7 - 10 gallons per day. I will still have weekly maintenance (smaller water changes) performed.

I know that Adam (Adamc1303) is real happy with his system although he just purchased it last month.

Have any of you been using one on your system? What are your thoughts about the product?

Leroy, she seems to be getting much better. She's been eating a lot of sponge of the rocks and I caught her eating some of the live brine shrimp. I have my fingers crossed.

I will have success with them together!!! The big thing is getting them eating. My bigger one is doing phenomenal and is eating everything it sees. It even pushes some of the tangs out of the way when it is eating Nori off of my pvc pipes. Once the smaller one is eating better, I will put them back in together!

They continue to do well. I can not wait to give them the run of the house! Rather, the swim of the main tank!

I slightly modified, but copied, dca22anderson's acclimation boxes to introduce the Achilles to my main display with. Both are over 2' long, 10" wide and deep. This will allow everyone to get slightly used to one another. I am hoping that my boxes will be ready this week. If not, they have been promised early next week.

You are right, the Achilles like/need a lot of room to swim!

Wow simply a amazing picture, they will be right at home in your tank, where did you get them from?[/QUOTE]

My LFS, Simply Elegant Aquatics (SEA) ordered them for me. They have pretty much been able to get any fish that I have desired. They have been talking about setting up an online business at some point in the near future. I will certainly let everyone know.

As soon as these two leave my QT for my display, I will be ordering two small Sohal Tangs from Simply Elegant. I will need the same level of patience with them as I have shown with the Achilles.

I believe I should test drive those Achilles before you place them in your DT to make sure they are durable.
