A Reef Tank in the Desert - +/- 1,400 gallon system

So this is the 1st,
Won't be the last...
I am getting all my packages pretty fast.
Not trying to be coy, sleek or sly...
But I am keeping FedEx & UPS flying high!

Dan,

Be wary... Those clown gobies are so cute. And when you have groups of them they like to pair up. Then they look very cute.

But once they see the twinkle in each others eye they will tear the skin off the center of your most beautiful SPS colonies to make a clean place to lay eggs.

Cute but long term expensive little fish.

Thanks Dave!

I am only going to have one yellow and one green in the main display!

Dan,

They come in lots of different colors - Green, Yellow, Red, Blue, Black, Grey - I have never seen them pair up in different colors. So you can still have several of them.

The Atlantics are beautiful, i raised mine from a 1" baby, it is now around 6" and can be very agressive. It doesn't play nice with newcomers though so i will be finding a new home for him when i move everyone else to the new tank. So be prepared.

I hadn't been very active on the forums for awhile and I just came across your thread Dan. Absolutely incredible set up! Fantastic design and a real inspiration. I read through your thread and caught up quickly. I'll certainly be following a long from here on out. It's fun to see the real life ups and downs of a big build like this -- you've taken everything in stride -- bravo!

And, congratz on the new additions this week. :)

Dan Day AKA FEDEX Day AKA Xmas in Tucson

Whatever call it

Anyday presents end up on door step is a good day (we won't talk about the bill)

In the famous words of Ferris, Kabella! Joy to read through this build thread and follow progress. Getting good ideas for my next upgrade. Few Technical questions if I may;

Glass thickness and do you know if the builder built sides around bottom or on top of bottom piece of glass?

Anything under the towers or just very flat smooth? Did you do the simulated "power outage" to see if sump handles back flow from returns? I don't trust check valves as they fail at some point. How far from surface are your return lines? Use siphon break? Please share your approach to this important contingency.

Congrats! Like I'm looking at the MIRAGE check-in but with real coral!

Sorry for the delay. Between the emptying of the boxes, cleaning, water changes, filing the quarantine tanks and playing Chauffeur to my kids - my day has been very full.

So Box #3.

A beautiful Powder Blue Tang from Live Aquaria's Divers Den. The fish has been non stop swimming back and forth in one of my qt's.

So over the last week I have had delivered about 360 lbs. of live rock delivered for my old 150 gallon display.

I still need to have another 120 lbs. delivered next week.

While the rock has mostly been cured, I still have a few more weeks to go before this tank will be connected to my system. The tank will mostly be used for live rock/filtration. The top 20% of the tank will be used as a frag/growth tank. I am going back and forth with what I will doing for lighting. I haven't decided if I will be ordering 3 more Radions or will be going with MH lighting for the tank.

Today's delivery included an order from Reefs2go. I purchased 10,000 pods to seed the rock/filtration/frag/growth tank with.

Only 10,000? You sure you have enough? Lol, I thought 2000 was alot for my tank. It looked like a jailbreak when I put them in the sump
