A Reefaholic's 1000+ Gallon Mixed Reef System Build

Just finished reading the entire thread! What a journey. Looks great. Now that RC is back up to speed we expect MANY pictures!! :)

A few pages back you talked about CO2 regulators. Did you get one yet? If not, you might want to check out 'PlantedTank.net' to learn more than you ever wanted to know about regulators. :)

One of the best threads is 'How to build a co2 regulator'.

Yet another thread that has me lusting after a basement!

I've not gotten regulator yet but plan on getting the one you referenced with electronic valve for maximum control.

Thanks for the compliments and hope to have you tagging along!

Baby furniture got delivered today and I put together most of it tonight so about finished with that project/ expenses so I can get back to the tank! I also sanded down framing around tank and puttied again so hopefully can wrap up painting frame tomorrow night as carpet install is coming Thursday!

Dustin, sorry to hear about all the polishing!! I'm considering acrylic tank to and I'm worried for that exact reason!
Corey

I would not go glass on 300+ gallons as nothing beats the strength and flexibility of acrylic. Glass scratches but you're not going to be able to polish it out!

I polished a tank that had major scratches, started at 400 grit and worked to about 800 or 1200 I think then went to the arbor & wheel with a regular plastic polish. Took forever. I haven't tried the Novus stuff but you don't need that anyways, just Meguiar's and a good rinse with bleach.

Now I just go to 1200 wet/dry on a Preppin Weapon then the Meguiar's Ultra-Cut compound followed by the Swirl Free Polish using the SoftBuff 2.0 Cutting Pads using a polisher I picked up at Northern Tool & Equipment.

On the outside of a large tank, I can knock out one long panel in about an hour or so from sandpaper to mirror shine. The inside is tougher because it's awkward and some spots you need to get manually or with the drill/arbor/wheel. I even did a 20g zero-edge tank once, that was significantly more difficult than a much larger tank.

Agreed on nice polisher speeding it up, would never recommend the Novus polishing kit. The soft buff 2 pads and swirl remover were the cherry on top and worked much better.

My only question, where were you at when I posted this question a few weeks back Bud!!! :-P

Finished painting the trim around tank last night, carpet being installed today, so next steps are building cabinet and getting it plumbed! Going to make it on its own closed loop so I can cure rock in tank and treat with LaCl to make sure I don't have phosphate leading issues. Hoping not with the Marco rock but better safe than sorry.

+1 I went with glass on my 315g. It came with a few scratches and has picked a few more up in the last year. Sometimes I feel like if I look at it the wrong....I can scratch it.

I'm by no means knocking on glass tanks. They are MUCH more resistant to scratches and both glass/acrylic both have their positives/negatives.

Carpet got installed today and put last coat of paint on trim. Spoke to friend from club and we're working out time to build the cabinet, will be nice to have it in place!

Tomorrow night's project for the "Man Cave"! Wanted to get it put up tonight but was not up for moving the slate by myself, that's an impossible feat!

Who's pot belly is that reflecting in your tank? I thought it was your wife carrying the child.

I've pretty much decided on acrylic. 48/48/24. Only 20 more gallons than my current set up but I like the dimensions SO much better. Going to talk to my friend next week about the task I'm putting on him

Glad to hear Corey. Share your build thread once you are going.

I sure will. The tank will be built beautifully. My friend does great great work.
I'm excited. I'm going to put my current tank and stand up for sale next week and its off to the races
