A Reefaholic's 1000+ Gallon Mixed Reef System Build

Nice work! I've been following your thread for some time and not commented...but the kohoneys and DIY you showed on the overflow chased me out from behind the curtain. Kudos to you for even attempting this and job well done Sir. Also need to say you've got one heck of a second half for allowing this build and the economical commitment it entails. Its all necessary and the hobby needs more individuals like you to make advancement. Please keep up the good work! (and continue to post documentation of your progress!)

Greatly appreciated. If I had an unlimited budget it would have been done long time ago but spending it as I have the extra and I've got a great wife that puts up with my expensive hobby! Hopefully I can frag for some money to help pay for operating expenses soon :-)

This is true, especially with all my local INDMAS members that I owe quite a big one for the help, especially for the move!

I'll get it done when it gets done! :spin2:

Aquarium Engineering (Bill Wann) calcium reactor that holds 50 lbs of media is what I'll be using.

I'm still dosing two part but when the 600 is up and running it'll be running with it.

The calcium reactor is all PVC including the "clear" tubing and all fittings are SCH 80. I expect the CR to last a lifetime and it carries a lifetime warranty too so I'm not too worried about it breaking as it could drop from 6 foot and I'd be more worried about what it landed on rather than what happened to it! :worried:

Hello Dustin I read your entire thread about a month ago and found it to be very enlightening. I dont recall what you decided for lighting? I remember reading your solarblast appolo thread but did you ever decide what your putting over that beast? Do you remember what pages I can find it?

Not sure on page but I'll be using the Orphek Atlantiks. I have only had them over my frag tank for less than a week and still playing with the colors and intensity but like them so far. I was just not getting the coloration I expected out of the Apollos and in the same tank I had an Orphek PR72 and the colors were much better/deeper. Sorry for short response but working on projects around house today including plumbing and trying to PAR test the new light like I
did with the Apollos.

dustin whats the light spread of the atlantik's?

I would say a good 3' X 2' spread with the wide optics. It's got four channels and I've got two of the channels set to 30/40% and from 30+" I had 110-150 PAR on the frag racks. In the next day or so plan to PAR test them and plot out a diagram much like I did with the Apollos. So far rather impressed with them and hope to have the coloration I had out of the PR72 pendant I had on tank.
