A Reefaholic's 1000+ Gallon Mixed Reef System Build

Another tank opportunity...

Another tank opportunity...

So, while looking around last night I came across a tank that's not too far away from me that is a bit bigger than what I originally planned with an additional foot of depth. (96"X48"X30.5") Comes with huge volcano skimmer and steel stand I'd probably have reinforced more....That being said, can anyone speak to whether T-e-n-a-c-o-r is a good manufacturer and what your opinion of them is? I'd love any feedback anyone has on the manufacturer so I can make an informed decision. This tank is brand new and never has seen water:hmm4:

Hi Dustin,

I have never owned a *******, however I was looking into them when I was buying my new tank. I believe (If I remember correctly) they just went out of business. I had gotten a quote from them and shortly after got an appology letter from the rep. They went belly up and didn't tell the reps who had still been selling tanks. I believe some people got the shaft on that.

However.........that being said........from my research they had a pretty solid reputation prior to that. Many people seemed to prefer them over TrueVue. Again, I don't have one of their tanks. Just the impression I had gotten while researching. That tank looks VERY well maintained and that skimmer is SWEET! Good luck with your decision. ;)

Kris.

I've never owned that brand, but I recall folks being happy with them. Will you have access behind the tank? The only thing I don't like about it is the overflow. It will be extremely difficult to reach to the bottom if anything makes its way in there. But, if the price is right, a little inconvenience may be okay for a gorgeous tank like that.

I'm going to continue to try to get some feedback on the manufacturer as that is my biggest question...I'd still be holding off the DT build until a later date because I'll need money for the build such as lights but I could at least know I have the DT ready to be implemented sooner and on deck:)

Dustin,
While I dont own one of their tanks but when I was doing research for my build I had looked at their tanks and heard a lot of great feed back on them. I just decided that I wanted glass instead of acrylic.

I had also decided when I was planning things out what I would buy used and what I would only buy new. The tank was one of the things that went into the new column right away. I realize that plenty of people buy used tanks and never have a problem but I wanted to reduce the chances of anything going wrong and have a warranty on the tank. Pumps and lights and other pieces of equipment...no problem...I bought used but with the tank I wasnt going with anything other than brand new.

Steve,

I hear you on the tank not being new. This tank, stand, and skimmer are $4500. The skimmer alone was $3200 new and just tested out on a small tank system to ensure it worked. Decisions, decisions! Seeing your tank gave me the itch;)

Wow, that is a great deal!!!!! It might be time to scratch that itch!!!!

I'd get it Dustin. Even if you don't like the tank too much, you sell the tank, keep the skimmer for new tank. It's a pretty nice setup and would go well with what you've done so far.

I'm polling lots of people to check out the reputation of the manufacturer and doing some checks to ensure it's thick enough. On the 96X36X30 tank I've been getting quotes on some say 3/4 and others say 1 inch thick so I've opened up some threads here and on my local reef club forums as well as reaching out to Premium Aquatics who's been helping me out on some answers:) I don't want to rush it as I could really have a bad mistake that I regret if I don't take my time and can have confidence in my purchase....Still looking/waiting even though I'm overly excited!

Think I might have a tank! I've done lots of research/reviews and when this tank was made the manufacturer was at the top of there game and 3/4" acrylic has been approved by the DIYers for a tank this size. Last night I was unable to measure but tonight I will be measuring to make sure it can make it to the basement and building another PVC replica as I did last time;) Might have to rip out some drywall to get it downstairs but you do what you've got to do, right?!

Tonight I'll know whether I'm getting it and seller can deliver on 9th or possibly the 2nd of March!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats awesome!!!! I am sure ripping out some dry wall and replacing it will still be a lot cheaper than buying this tank brand new!!!!! I used your replica pvc trick when I was planning out my tank....awesome idea.

I just got off the phone with the seller and we're actually looking at getting it delivered tomorrow as that's what worked for both of us. That being said, I may have a tank come tomorrow! I've got to do the replica tonight and hoping to get out of work early and get back with him on confirmation. Steve, I'll blame the itch on you because I saw your tank and was jealous:)

Thats ok...blame away. I blamed my itch on another reefer who set up a 180 last year. I have a feeling you will make it fit no matter what!!!!!

Just caught up on this thread. Great build so far. With the level of detail you are putting into things so far, I can't wait to see how the DT turns out. Can't wait for pics of that tank sitting in your basement.

Thanks and glad to have you along. Will likely be sitting in the garage for a bit until I'm ready for it down in the basement with the wall cut out for it!
