A Reefaholic's 1000+ Gallon Mixed Reef System Build

I tested and it will not fit down the stairs:(

Half inch more and it would fit but I'm not letting it stop me.

I'll either take out bottom stair or knock off the header and have some drywall repair to do later on. Awaiting Paypal address to put deposit down and seller will be coming tomorrow to deliver it!!! I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight.

just grab a sledge hammer and start knocking out some sheet rock before the wife gets home. Tell her you tripped going down the stairs and made mess of the walls so now you have to get the tank because walls need to be repaired any way. :)

I'll spend $50 repairing drywall for how much I saved on buying a new custom tank although I hate doing drywall work.

Definitely, drywall sucks but will be worth it. I was thinking of maneuvering that big of a tank in general. That is a tight fit for the amount of people it will take to move that .

It's a few hundred pounds but I've got a few really big buddies that spend way too much time at the gym that will be helping out when I move it from garage to final resting place.

decided against getting the monster volcano skimmer? What route are you going with skimming?

Honestly I was not prepared to buy a tank right now as I've been spending enough money on getting the system up and running. I passed on the skimmer although it's a great skimmer but will likely be going with an SRO 6000 through SRO 8000 External. Next focus after getting frag tank/system going is going to be my basement and getting the wall set up to display the new tank...Once that is all done I can start working towards getting the DT up and running.:bounce3:

Def tagging along

Floyd, great to have you along for the ride! I'm sure I'll have some questions for you after I've caught up on the two ATS threads but I will get ATS going once I have saltwater in the tank. I should be using tap water to do a water test on the frag system/sump today/tomorrow so I can see how well I did on my plumbing job. Hoping I did not have any slip ups with the plumbing job but time will tell.

Water test...Check!

Water test...Check!

Tank delivered and water test on it worked out great! Took over an hour to fill with two garden hoses but am very pleased with it. I'll need to do some plumbing work to the Loc-Lines as they had used old plumbing to test on it but is going to be an amazing setup once I get it going and wife does not give me an evil eye each time I mention the word reef:headwally:

Side picture in my garage. (Can't get good front pic as I wanted back facing where my wife parks):

Two huge holes on each side for access:

Started the draining of it after some cleaning of the inside with a new magnet cleaner I bought for frag tank. Will likely need a good Great White magnet cleaner to once it's going.

man that tank looks mint... delivered with a stand to your door too, you cant top that.

It looks mint because it is mint. This tank was in great condition and very glad I pulled the trigger on it. Pictures DO NOT show it justice as this thing is absolutely huge. I built the PVC replica to ensure it would fit to it's final resting place but until you actually see it...You can't quite picture it.

I bet you were temted to add some salt and get it going right then and there!!

Steve

It is but honestly at this point think that'd lead to a resort. Now that I have a tank to drool over I've got to get my partial system up and then I'll be focusing on work in the basement so I can finish it and get back to this beast. It will likely be sitting in the basement with a framed in window for quiet some time before it sees water again.

I give it 4 months!!!!

Steve

We'll see if you're right. I've got a lot of work to do in the basement but I'm typically pretty fast with my projects. Basement might take a few months and then after that I'll be working towards getting the tank up and running for sure. :crazy1:
