A Reefaholic's 1000+ Gallon Mixed Reef System Build

I had lights at 100% all colors for 6 hours. I got crazy growth but color was faded. In june I cut back to what i have now. Lots better color

That's the way I've been lately. Good growth but not that satisfied with colors and my parameters have been in check with very little swing in alk.

Well i just spent from 9am till 3pm reading through this. (slow day at work). i have to say what you are doing is insane, and i love it!

Great setup, well designed and organised. Are you running a separate sump for your QT tanks?

Cant wait to see it stocked!

Glad I could make good use of your day! :reading:

QT tanks do not have a dedicated sump. For the fish QT, I'm normally doing 25% weekly changes and use a mechanical filter. For the Frag QT, I don't run a filter at all and just run powerhead, heater, and LED. I use a LiterMeter III that drains from the main system to the Frag QT, the Frag QT is then plumbed directly into the house drain so it automatically does a water change of it's full volume over the course of 2 days so filtration is not of concern. Help to keep the frag QT separate from the main system but also keep the parameters stable and inline with the DT. Only thing I ever do with the Frag QT is add a little RO/DI from time to time as SG starts to creep up over the course of a month or two. Let me know if you have any questions, I'm sure I've have pictures to reference:spin2:

Looking great. I cant wait until we close on our house so I can start a project like this

It's fun and I enjoy doing the projects. Once I get done with this tank/basement it will be the baby nursery, followed by master bathroom tile job, etc, etc...:D Make sure you consider where you'll put the tank/fish room....I was silent with my observations but a house that my wife loved I could not because I had no idea where I'd put the fish room/tank!

Wrapped up the trim tonight. Will have to get some silicone and wood putty to get that started in the morning. Once that's done time to prime/paint. Next couple days going to have limited tank time with the holiday and being out of town a bit.

More pics for the picture junkies...Cap and all trim will be painted white. Until we have furniture and carpet in I'm not going to worry about a rail but it's finally starting to come together over past few weeks.

Was cleaning the tank earlier and found a flatworm...Trying to snap a good picture but not having any luck. I don't believe they are AEFWs but would like confirmation so I can sleep tonight:) If not, I'll likely be pulling all my acros, moving to a temporary 40 breeder, dipping in Bayer every 7 days for 6 weks, then treating whole tank with Flatworm Exit twice.

Sorry, it's not great.

Do you see any signs on the acros themselves? Ive been looking at mine as a possible source for the problems Ive had. I picked up a couple of wrasses this week from liveaquaria. i havent seen them find any flatworms but they sure are having a grand time find all of the bristle worms.

I took about 20 colonies/frags of acro and I don't see any flatworms on them or eggs. I know most just say all flatworms are bad but some are much worse than others. I just came up from inspecting all those frags and I found about 5 more below the frag racks. I also have a $500 efflo that has been struggling but I don't see oval bite marks on it. It's new to the system in past couple months but most other acros are doing well outside trying to get the right colors out of them:)

Ok, posted in the hitchhikers/pests thread and they identified it as a Amphiscolops Sp. I looked it up and is exactly the ones I have and they are harmless and only a predator to copepods which I have PLENTY of. Here's a good picture or two of them on Melevsreef:
