A Reefaholic's 1000+ Gallon Mixed Reef System Build

Glad to see this beautiful tank finally set up. I was the second owner and had the volcano made too. Awesome build.

How many times has this tank been changed hands? I'm afraid it might be cursed if still new, years later and not been set up. Currently working on the plumbing designs today as I want to put order in this week for plumbing! After a water run I'll be curing marco rock in display measuring for phosphates on a closed loop before I tie into the rest of the system.

Got my project knocked out yesterday with the pool table...Today working on figuring out this plumbing! Hopefully can have it figured out today.

You got it from the person I sold it to. No curse, just how easy plans can change.

I sold it to help pay for my daughters wedding.

Just FYI, I accept all of those party invitations that are surly coming!

I'll be having a plumbing party in the next week?! Just put in order last night for closed loop plumbing along with two Reeflo Dart Golds and a Reeflo Hammerhead Gold.

With return and closed loops and calculated head loss that's 15,420 GPH. That's about 30x water movement in DT after you take in the actual water volume of a 96X48X30 tank. Add in two MP60s and that should be a good starting point.

That is some decent movement. I just did an estimated calculation for my tank and its only going to be approximately 16376 GPH which comes out to about 34X my tank volume.

Inside dimensions of tank make it about 510 gallons. If you add the full power of MP60s that's 30,420 GPH/510 Gallons = 59.64X.

I'll be running the closed loops alternating so that will take the flow up some and I likely won't run the MP 60s at full power. I really wish the MP 40s could be added to back wall but the wall is 3/4" + 1/4" black overlay so don't think the MP 40 would stick on 1 inch of acrylic!

OK to double check my math, how did you come to that conclusion? So since my tank is made of 3/4 inch acrylic, I would have to subtract 1 1/2 inches off each length. So that would put my actual tank volume with water only at about 428 gallons, right???

Just did following:

(Total Flow in DT) / DT Volume

I did inside dimensions of tank so it'd be more accurate on total volume. 94.5"X46.25"X27

Correct, just subtract thickness of the acrylic. Would say after 1/2" bottom and water not going to very top, I came up with ~27 inches.

I don't have anything whitty like fedex Friday like Steve but got a good amount of pumps/plumbing supplies today.

Three pumps for closed loop systems as well as all the plumbing to do the closed loop. Still have to work on design of return/overflow so I can order next round of plumbing.

Just to poll the audience, how many dry fit the return and overflow piping in the overflow box? I guess I've always glued mine in but does not seem to be the normal convention. Thoughts/opinions?!
