A salesperson at my LFs offered me 250 dollars when I showed them my new DIY tank.

Hot pink/purple Pseudochromis fridmani. If you sold it to the LFS they would have set it up next to the cash register and put clowns, tangs and mandarins in it within a week.

Thats very very very sweet. How long did it take you to complete it?
I can't recall the actual hours it took since I only worked on it a little at a time over weeks rather than a whole day/weekend project. However, I estimate that it took me at least just as long as when I did my 75 gallon's canopy, stand, electrical, and plumbing. The size of the tank doesn't seem to matter in how long it takes to get it ready. I'm just glad it's finished except for two more ballasts left to install.

Great looking design, but how so you replace the heater when it goes bad (or change the temperature setting)?

That is an inspiring tank. Nicely done. I agree with the bio balls. I think some tanks just work better with them. Again beautiful design!

As for fish suggestions, why not a really small brazilian or atlantic pygmy angel. Wonderful tank!

Lift off the canopy, turn the trickle pipe straight up, remove the filter tray, remove the bag containing Bio-Balls, remove the eggrate peice, pull the heater up by it's cord. It's easier than it sounds. Takes maybe 10 seconds. ;)

I would like to know more about the ballast from wallymart. I am trying to find some cheap PC lighting setups.

The electronic ballast came out of one of those 18-inch strip lights they sell at WallyMart for $6.95. When I bought it, I opened it up to yank out the expected magnetic ballast. To my surprise it was electronic. I hooked it up to an endcap I got from Hellolights:

and an 18W PC bulb from Foster and Smith

And it was nice and bright! I plan on hooking up two more in a day or two when I have some time off.

watch out tho, I read about people using the guts out of those shop light thing and them going out after a week or so. great lookin tank too by the way.

Questoin for ya Saltzcreep

Did you just silicone in that seperate panel??
Is it just a piece of acrylic? or is it glass?
And what did you put on the back panel to make it look like that?
