A Splash of Color - My SPS Peninsula Reef

Thanks Dom, i'm glad those latest frags have settled in quickly - that's one of the benefits of running the same light bulbs mate.
I have pumps on the overflow wall and back wall with two sides clear for full viewing. I'm betting there won't be any haha'ing coming out of your mouth next year when you're helping carry the new display into the house........ i will be supervising of course :smokin:
Settled in quickly and loving it! :D I think I have to agree with you on having multiple pieces of SSC in a tank though, one of the branches fell off the new frag so I've got another piece growing out on the rocks as well. They're just so nice! I definitely think that the same bulbs means that any acro transfer that occurs will be quick and painless for everyone!
I'll still haha once or twice before I pick it up and then put it down, maybe no haha'ing during the actual move :uhoh3: I'll definitely be around to help though ;)

Hey Andrew good to read that you're still with us and look forward to more of your insightful ramblings

Thanks mate :)

This piece is pretty sweet :) I love rescue pieces that turn out to be gems.

Hey Richard, i'll be very surprised if it doesn't turn out to be yummy colored so fingers crossed i don't stuff it up. Dave at Deer Park aquarium used his own custom made LED units over the acros and they seem to work quite well as the corals i buy are always healthy with good PE in his shop tanks.
I'll take a heap of pics next visit to show you the shop and sale tanks as long as Dave doesn't mind - if he does mind i'll take them when he's not watching...........

Thanks for the pics and ramblings mate. Lunch hours at work are a pretty boring affair, your posts do bring a smile to my face...my colleagues may wonder what I am reading about online, but they'd never understand reefkeeping and Biggles.

Hey Sahin, i just call it how it is bud

Still luvin' the baby blue!
And yes, moose are a bizarre and gangly animal.. But I think that sums up is Canadians, in general..

Hey Matt, you left out the bit about part of their heads dropping off but i do see your point mate. :)

I'm always amazed by the health of your corals. It's good to see that you have such an altruistic heart that you're willing to help your local stores out by taking those unwanted corals off their hands while giving them a little donation at the same time.

Sounds like someone may be wearing a wizard hat of their own these days.

Thanks mate, i also rescued an acro off the reef for less than a week.

You can't have too much of that SSC coloration in the tank Dom so spread it everywhere like i do lol. I'm betting that acro is going to be rather tasty under the Radium Dom......... make room for another frag........ :)

The difference between a healthy acro saturated with pigment and a recently collected acro that is part bleached from recent collection stress. The zeo looking acro will be much more heavily saturated with pigments a month from now and not the pretty pastel it is now. Deeper saturation does not always equate to prettier overall colors in my opinion.

What's that tasty looking purple with yellow polyps that you keep showing off in your pictures? Is there a name for that, or is it something you just picked up?

I have started to spread it out everywhere, maybe I'll set up a small tank and just purely run it with SSC :p that would be an interesting looking tank, maybe with a few blue piece just for fun too! They're all looking really tasty though :inlove: and growing nicely too!!

Now that is SATURATED! I can't wait for mine to get more colour like that though, so far it's only the tips that have that amazing blue to them! I'm hoping with a bit more love and care and some lower nutrients that it'll be popping in no time :D But I do agree some acro's are better with a bit of pastel, pinks especially!

It's a wild piece i originally bought a bit over two years ago. It looked like a typical tri color when i bought it with the purple branches with deep satin blue tips and fluoro polyps. It is nothing more than luck that it turned out to cover with the blue pigment entirely under the right conditions. It loves the light on the tank bottom so it makes for an extreme contrast against white sand. :)

I like the rescue acros Andrew they look good. You can rescue my acros also lol.

Thanks Dan lol.

I have SSC all over the place as you know Dom, it's pretty easy to keep and looks cool which suits me just right. :)

This is coloring up blue from the tips down with very white polyps which makes for a pretty pastel contrast i think. It's growing at sand level and seems happy so far but would likely color up faster in a bit higher light. A piece of this would look nice between your SSC and firetruck for color contrast Dom...........;)

That is a sharp looking acro. I would name that one the Frosty Smurfcicle :smurf: Although I'd suggest testing out the colors by picking up your own frag of Firetruck from Dom first, just to make sure they blend properly of course.

I know you do :lmao: and it's worn off on me as well! It is a super cool acro though!

That is one of the more interesting pieces I've seen for a while, that blue is really really nice though and with polyps it makes for an interesting mix! It would definitely do very well in between those two pieces :)
Any idea on species?

Yeah it's pretty nice so far, lol on the name :)
I need to get the smurfcicle colored up better before it's ready for a place beside Dom's firetruck........ we need more blue and less of that gacky grey/tan turdy branch color. :hmm3:

I think it's a valida branch Dom unless anyone has a better ID. You'll want some as soon as you see it in person i think mate ;)

Weekend gratuitous mood shots time.........

And people wonder why so many SPS tanks have a yellow tang......... contrast with acro colors might play a part in its popularity.

2_zps8zqenihz.jpg~original

Radiums off and ATI B+, actinic & KZ superblues on. It's not a good mix for viewing as everything is washed out blue and it looks as weird as the photo looks. I don't like it until only the actinics are on for the last 30 mins.

Tank is looking really good buddy. That peach/pink nikki is catching my eye next to the yellow tang.
I reckon that is a valida 2. Just with the potential in your tank to become a really effin nice valida. Much better than mine. For some reason I like white polyps on acros.

Thanks Michael, that has been quietly doing its own thing on the back of the stag island so i thought i would move it to the front. It's a bit poopy i think about the move but hopefully it likes the new spot i chose.
White polyps on acros lets you much more of the tissue pigment which is particularly handy with hairy acros like millis etc. I also like those almost black dark purple polyps like Matt has on one of his pieces but i've never seen an acro for sale with dark polyps unfortunately.

The yellow tang has a thing about the gap running through the left island rock work and attacks me if i do any work around there. He tried to back up on my hand and slice me a couple of times when i stuck the milli down lol. He's in the pics because he gets upset if i get close to his spot with the phone to take pics like this and paces back and forth flaring his dorsal fin like an idiot.
He sleeps in the acros on the right island so i have no idea why he has a bug up his behind about me going near the front of the left island. I actually swatted him with the back of my hand one time and that made him worse as he came straight back quivering his tail with death in his eyes. I retreated for a coffee break at that point because i was getting pretty traumatised by the psycho. Up the other end of the tank he eats nori from my fingers as if we're still mates......... we aren't........ :furious:

He's like some murderous yellow troll in that grotto......

I should point out that Dom will be cutting his own frags with regards to anything near that spot..............

Nice collection of colours you have there Andrew. I also have a belligerent tang but mine tries to bite my hand when I get close to his rock and like yours doesn't give up until I retreat :furious:

Awesome shots, Andrew! Love the first one.. Remove the picture on the wall and you're looking right into the ocean.
Beautiful arrangement. I always love your fts. Looks so natural.
Is that a pavona or cyphastrea in the centre?

Oh, and where'd you hide the new lobo!?!

Bravo Mate, I am really digging the coral pics, the FTS pics, really everything that your camera seems to take, just do us all a favor and continue to put those pics up, really stoked for you mate, you have that blue thumb :)

It's bloody annoying isn't mate, fish swatting doesn't work with yellow tangs. :hammer:

Thanks Matt, thats some of the orange pav i spread around the place. I posted the lobo thingy in the new journal mate :)

Andrew, perfect like ever! i love this flat rock scaping.
