A Splash of Color - My SPS Peninsula Reef

Man that sounds crazy Andrew good thing you're ok bud..ya i never trust anyone when it comes to electrical i even double check my own work just because, better safe than sorry is how ived done for years..

I'm all good thanks guys :)

Boxboy is allergic to physical work Marty but he can tell you the theory..... bit like most teens now days. My father taught me about electricity at an early age when he had me touch an electric cattle fence. After he picked me up and stopped laughing he said ' you won't do that again will you ' - thanks dad

The 250W radium dawn coming up over the horizon as the fish wake up today.

I think I counted 5 anthias. Did you restock? By the way, your right, this tank is screaming for a purple tang and a pair of crosshatch triggers

Marty

There were five 3-4" feminus wrasse in a tank - just disgustingly beautifully awesomely pretty. Despite repeated requests Stylo Boy refused to buy me one for $300- so i suggested a bulk price offer for all five and he still wouldn't be in it......... bloody Stylo Boy is why Acroman doesn't have a feminus wrasse in his acro cave.......:hammer:
They certainly are disgustingly beautiful! Haha Stylo Boy would have had to sell his tank for all five even at bulk price :lolspin: They were friggin stunning though, expensive potential carpet surfers though lol

The tank looks amazing though Andrew! I love it!! Ouch about the pliers though, that would have been a good surprise for you!

:ekk1::worried:

Wrangy, I think all of us reefers are nuts as there's no way a sane person would spend so much on such a 'silly' hobby:p. I had someone come into the shop the other day and the conversation went something like this.
Shopper. "$15 for an anglefish!!!! (freshwater)"
Me. "Yes that's correct"
Shopper. "That's madness, why would anyone pay that much for a stupid fish?"
Me. "Because some people love the hobby and know that's how much those fish cost and they don't mind paying that for them"
Shopper. ".......wow really....their nuts then"
Me. "Well I'm one of those people and I don't just have a tropical tank, I have a reef tank as well. Most things cost 2-3 times more than freshwater too"
Shopper. Walks out stunned.
Haha and here I am, spent $200+ on my bellus angelfish who I love to absolute bits. You're right saying we're all a bit nuts :wildone: most that aren't in the hobby don't get it, lucky my partner gets it (or at least my obsession haha) so there's no need to hide spending :D

Awesome acro's Biggles and loving the new tank, I have been admiring your acro's for a while. I would love to get a chance to see your 2 setups as a friend of mine here in oz has seen your old setup and told me how awesome it is.

Andrew, Have you considered streaming your tank on the internet? You and Kevin could become Internet heroes. Alas you won't be able to clean your tank naked anymore.

Marty

+1 to that (live streaming the tank that is, not seeing Biggles naked cleaning it though. Mind you he probably looks damn sexy doing it:lmao::facepalm: ).

Rory, have you been sniffing acro slime? I warned you about listening to Kevin and his crazy ideas.

Coming along nicely man!

Thanks Rodney :)

Marty

The Randall's Anthias that went down into the sump was dead the next morning and stuck to the return pump grill so that was a major bummer. I have 2 Randall's and three Lyretails now but i need lots more Randall's. I don't like triggers but a purple tang is definitely going in the display Marty

This is a prime example of why biggles has no show fish - no one will buy him one or five............. :(

Hi mate, you must be friends with Bryce because no other reefer has ever laid eyes on my tanks. You've been reefing for quite a while i see, how are things now you're using halides mate, what bulbs do you run if i may ask.

I can wear my boxers when cleaning Marty, it's only acro scaping that requires total nudity :p

Hmmmmmmmmm

I'm getting 5 Lyretails in a few months. Going away on holiday soon for a few weeks, so I dont want to get them now.

As long as the daily feeding can be kept up, these Anthias are very pretty fish. :)

I currently have one male lyretail and 3 females... I bought the male in advance of the females by about ... I don't know, maybe 4 months or so? The hilarious part is that my male Lyretail is a great googily moogily huge one compared to the itty bitty females.

One look at the male and the females turned, looked at me, and proclaimed "You are out of your skimmate mind."

Yeah I have been friends with Bryce for a while, I have helped him out as much as I can with his venture into this hobby. Yep been a reefer for around 9 years and have to admit since going with halides I have had amazing success. I ran t5 for a year or two but never liked them, then went led for 5 years and did well for the first 3-4 years then had unexplained rtn. But halides are the ducks nuts as far as I'm concerned lol.

I am currently testing 2 x 250w phoenix 12k globes I got off a fellow reefer on my 4ft system and am loving them. I am currently setting up a 1700x660x560 tank and will be using the 2 250w halides along with leds to run this new sps heavy tank.

I live in Pyalong and Bryce mentioned you live not far from us so if you ever want to drop round for a chat/beer I would welcome any advice you could give me in regards to my new build.

Hi mate, mine have been getting about 7-8 a day so their little tummies stay full :)
Who's looking after the reef while you're off bludging ?

Biggles, have you never tried with apogon leptacanthus? they are very nice fishes

I looked those up, never tried cardinals but a swarm of those would look awesome i bet :)

Lol, i have three and one is clearly dominant but still looks like the other two. The runty one hangs out with the royal gramma who chases the other pair away if they come looking for trouble near his cave.

I like the sound of your new display, very similar dimensions to my tank.
I took this off Wiki - ' Pyalong was connected by railway in 1890. The line was closed in 1968 '
It's pretty clear that at some point the rest of Aus decided they wanted nothing more to do with you Pyalongites mate.........

Kevin and i are always here if you'd like to drop in and talk acros - i can talk acros for bloody hours......... :p

Been doing more work on the third island and added more sand. The sand bed looks like Lawrence of Arabia should be riding a camel across it........:rolleye1:

Acroman's Acro Cave Update:

Acroman sat down to the acro lappy this morning ready to take a sip of his double black eye opener and found this on the screen.

k_zpsc4tzjqeo.jpg~original

Recalling the previous nights conversation with Kevin about his intention to become Stylo Boy's arch nemesis - Kaos Koala, it was obvious that something was up.
Upon turning the lights on Acroman discovered that Kaos Koala had indeed struck the first blow in what is sure to become a long and nasty battle with young Stylo Boy.

b_zpsjgepuixy.jpg~original

It appears that Kaos Koala has super glued all your frags to a frag rack Stylo Boy.......... the good news is he didn't mess with any of my acros

Looking great Biggles. I see that you still going for a 20% barebottom 80% sanded system. I'm too OCD Bigggles, that bald patch at the front...ESPECIALLY at the front would annoy me no end. :rolleye1:

The layout you've done here is really nice! I can't imagine what it'll look like months/year downy the line. Anymore corals or fish, other than a purple tang you will be adding in the future?

bahahahaha excellent! He must be wise enough to know not to mess with Acroman but rather try his luck with me, curse Kaos Koala!

They are some mind blowing frags so I don't mind the odd battle with Kaos Koala then if that's what's needed for those beauties! :fun2::hammer: especially if they continue to settle into my tank like your first box from the Acro Ute did!
