A Splash of Color - My SPS Peninsula Reef

That White skin is really unique and very pretty!

It should look very different in a month or two hopefully, it's got bugger all pigmentation right now.

Great pics, that video is funny lol

Thanks mate :lol2:

The peninsula 'clicked' a couple of days ago and is well and truly back in the SPS groove. I rewarded the acros with a new 400W Radium bulb to let them know i care.......... :)

Tank is looking great! Will you be adding any more rock? It was also nice to see your sump. A bunch of anthias swimming around will look really good. I can picture a group of sunset anthias, but any will do the trick.

Stunning looking tank Biggl....Andrew. Whilst the Kevin attack is funny...I am disappointed that there is no video of Kevin riding the flubber cycle. :(

Biggles, very nice corals…as usual…now a question: what's your water change frequency and how much? and how many LR have you got in sump and DT?

Good laughs Andrew! :)

Tank is simply stunning, as usual.

Thanks Mark, i must get a top down pic of that little golf ball sized acro now that it's had a couple of food dye dip treatments :p

Thanks mate, i will be adding another island so about 5 kilos more in the display and i want another 10 kilos in the sump. I have phos well and truly under control just with the bag of phosguard but the rock i have now isn't handling the nitrate load and the new sand is too sterile to be of much help. Everyone always asks me why i add the sand and put up with it blowing around. I want all that sand to become saturated with bacteria and the quicker that happens the faster i'll get the phos and nitrates balanced at a very low level.
The glass cleaning went from twice daily to every two days over the span of a couple of days - that's what i mean by noticing the tank 'click' coupled with a noticeable increase in the brilliance or 'pop' coming off the acro pigments. The nitrates are still high though and as soon as i saw the phos drop i noticed small areas of cyano appearing.
I've used Rowaphos for a couple of years and i find phosguard to do the exact same thing simply in a bag in high flow and i can buy it cheaply in any cruddy goldfish store. I don't trust the bag it comes in so i put the granules in my own 200 micron nylon mesh bag - biggles is a bit rough on his sump equipment........... :rolleye1:

Hmmmm, i went on a ramble lol........ yes i will be adding more rock is what i meant to say and i want more Randall's Anthias because they're pink against the orange Lyretails. :)

Thanks buddy, you never know what Kevin and i might get up to in the future. Dave at Deer Park Aquarium doesn't know it yet but Kevin wants to see the shop and it'll be on if Dave tries to chase him off the display shelving. Kevin likes to climb all over a LFS to get a feel for the place but some LFS owners take exception, being half drop bear as you know Kevin reacts badly to a broom and the word 'shooo'........... it's like waving a red cape at a bull tbh...... anyway the worst that can happen is Kevin gets banned and Dave cops a few stitches

Thanks my friend, i haven't done one since the peninsula has been running but i'll do a 20% today and the same every two weeks. I use red sea blue or continuum salt as both mix close to the same parameters as i keep the system water.
At the moment i have about 30 kilos in the display and 10 in the sump. I plan on adding another 15 kilos or so. As you can see in the sump video i have a tunze 6025 keeping the flow around the sump live rock vigorous.

Night snap, check out the size difference between Goliath the giant stylo crab and Neville the regular sized acro crab who lives in the 'penthouse' blue acro.

My phone captures images at 7712 x 4352 pixels which is why i can do this :)

Feeding the little pigs flake this morning with just the T5's on. Potatohead molted night before last so he didn't come running as usual, he gets special treatment when he's not his usual frantic self at breakfast - he loves mini pellets to start the day. :)

Care to share where you purchase your sps colonies?

I buy all my acros from Williamstown or Deer Park Aquarium. Same for my fish as the livestock quality, health and service from both LFS is second to none.

Thanks mate, so you are going to do a biweekly 20% water change from now to on

Yes mate, i do 20% every two weeks and find this keeps potassium and who knows what other elements at NSW levels. The same amount was working very well in the 65 gal before i upgraded.

In the United States, we would say, Kevin Bull Rushed you. Had to look away. Hopefully you weren't hospitalized!

Marty

He bushwacked me Marty...........

You can see some cyano on the sand in this pic.

This came from Deer Park Aquarium, i desaturated the you know what out of the pic so the ice blue branch color doesn't blow out the exposure lol.

Are most of your colonies maricultured or aquacultured. Wondering if you have any that die or brown out, from what I read it seems like everything is going good and you aren't having any issues.

Look almost like miniature Duncan

Yeah it's not good mate.

Everything i get is wild collected from either Queensland or Western Aus reefs. I have a couple of nice frags from one of my LFS guys tank but that's it. I can kill an acro with a goof just as well as anyone but no acro remains brown, they don't always color as nicely as i hope though - take the hairy little blue mutt above for example. :deadhorse1:
I actually put it in high light in the 65 gal hoping the polyps would retract a bit but that just made it bloody hairier.

I've got a piece that looks exactly the same. Would be nice blue/white if not for the pesky polyps! I call it blue wooky. ;)

Well can i tell you mate, the blue wookie better change polyp color over the next few months or he's going to be catching a ride on the Millennium Acro to the nearest Death LFStar................

Biggles, in which way do you make your islands? Looking at your video on feeding fish it seems as if there weren't rocks under the corals….a very original look...:eek1:

Biggles that was the most professional sump video I've ever see;). The tank looks pretty big in the vid, lots of space for all the revoltingly beautiful corals you have to grow:). I'm getting bored with the flubber in my tank so I'll be pestering you with questions as I try to go SPS dominant in my tank:beer:. I have put an order for the LFS to get me a nice branching monti (something nice and easy to start my collection with). So that should be hear soon:bounce:
