A Splash of Color

I would like everyone to know that Andrew is very understated about how kick a$$ his tank actually is! It is easily and by far the best sps tank in Aus and certainly one of my all time favourites!
Mind you these shots are super quick and not very good so they're an alright depiction of how amazing this splash of colour actually is! (I hope you don't mind my quick editing Andrew :) )

Words cannot describe how much I love Andrew's tank lol hopefully sometime in the next week or two I can get round and we'll take some real groovy shots and some fun top downs! :)

Beautiful shots Dom, but most importantly, amazing tank Andrew, the acro fields are sprinkled with color, the placement is key, and I know that you know this and are on to something mate! Tremendous Reef Andrew :)

Thanks for the pics Dom. You haven't had an SPS tank for months and are showing classic acro color withdrawal symptoms buddy. Coupled with the fact my reef is probably the only acro dominant reef you've seen in months i think that might explain why you think my reef is way better than it really is mate....

Dang Andrew FTS looks really nice!

Thanks Tim :)

Nice quick pics Dom, look at all those acros. Good to see things are doing well Andrew.

Thanks Mark, it's good to see you bouncing back from those horrible months of 'wth is going on' mate. Been through a few of those in my time and it takes hard work to keep going and not turn the power off sometimes.
I need to spend more time keeping up with my friends journals and less time rambling on here.

Wow. Thanks for some pictures Dom.

Hang on, i posted decent pics and i didn't get a bloody wow or nothing........ got flubber shamed actually............... you're in the book now Pifey...... and i pushed really hard when writing your name........

Thanks Perry, still going pretty slowly on the growth front but at least they look ok ;)

These two will contrast well when they grow up.

Lined up a head on cardinal over the acros porn shot, acros in focus and fish approacing...........

Bastard did a tail kick just as i pulled the trigger - ruined it !

Hadn't seen the single survivor of the great pep shrimp cardinal slaughter for weeks. 54 inches from the display people................... anyone can get a fish to jump out of the tank, happens all the time. Stuff like this only happens when someone sells you kamikaze pep shrimp............ someone named Dave.........:deadhorse1:

There was once a thriving stupid purple stylo colony under all these real corals......... you can still see bits poking up - when they grow more i'll have a new spot for another frag.

I'm going to hit those polyps with kalk paste soon - they don't like it one little bit ! ;)

I really admire the way you build upon your reef! It looks stunning because of the great job you do matching up contrasting colors and textures.

I've never seen a shrimp jump for its life, oh well time to break out the BBQ. That is if you got to it in time.

System is looking great.

Andrew, are you Acros darker than usual or is it just the pics?

Mindy used the AF for quite a while and then had a Triton test on the water which didn't show up anything like high copper etc. Pretty sure she was using more off the AF additives than i do as well so i'm not worried about toxic levels of any heavy metals from using just the comp 123.

Look down the page to see Mindy's Triton results.

Mindy's SPS Tank

When I took the Triton sample from the tank I was dosing Component 1+2+3+, Coral E, Coral V, and ProBioS all as directed on the bottles. As well as AcroPower Amino Acids.

Whelp, this is all your fault for teaching me how to read brown aussie acro's Andrew!

How it looked when I picked her out

Seriously Andrew, I would have never known what a little gem this Acro would turn out to be if it wasn't for your insight

Biggles,

I have a question for you. Do you run activated carbon at all? I'd also be interested to know why you do or do not use it.

With the new AF dosing - Andrew, have you seen increase in alk and cal uptake?
I know when I mixed my own DIY trace elements, I am getting 9 to 10% increase monthly.
Obviously I can't tell you the ratio of dosing because it is top secret material. :reading:

I will post some photos on my old thread shortly.

I am have large withdrawals, especially with all this fish buying :uhoh3: asked Dave to source me some more wrasse too :eek1:
I don't think your tank is any better than I make it out to be ;) lol but you'll never accept that :lolspin: either way it's one of the best out there

Quite a few acros are a bit poopy from the large and sudden phos drop i caused with the lanthium chloride solution Dave made up for me. Two acros RTN'd as sson as the lights came on the day after the second dose and that was only two weeks ago or so. That's why i pulled the carbon and phos minus, the glass went from every day to spotless for 4 straight days after that 48 hour period.
It's a bit weird but the glass now stays almost clean for two days straight with lots of food and nothing but the skimmer and matrix in the sump. It's like i rebooted the whole nutrient cycle that my system was running under and perhaps the bacteria have got the upper hand on the algae now. No idea but i am watching the tank for signs of too little phos and nitrates now which is quite the novelty for me. :)

I dosed triple the amount Dave told me to but at the end of the day it was entirely Dave's fault because of the words he used and the way he smiled when he handed me the little bottle of solution.

Since i'm only using the 123 your results give me a lot of confidence that using just the balling solutions alone will not give me any buildup of unwanted heavy metals.

Andrew,

How the anthias goes on your tank?
I tried squamipinis once....3 of them...but they last just a year or 2.

Regards.
Alex

Hey Alex, i started with five about 18 months ago i think and now have two. I have decided that lyretails are not as easy to keep as i thought they were mate. :hammer:

That's an intensely pigmented little bugger Tim, scrummy colors indeed. I'm glad you're having better luck with the wild pieces now mate

Haven't seen any increase mate but things haven't been 100% stable lately so i might watch and wait for another couple of weeks. Hopefully i won't do anything stupid between now and then....:fun5:

Did you ever get us some pictures or figure out what type of snails you have?

Kingdom: Animalia

Sub Kingdom: Eumetazoa

Super Phylum: Protostomia

Phylum: Mollusca

Class: Gastropoda

Sub Class: Prosobranchia

Order: Archaeogastropoda

Family: Turbinidae

Genus: Turbo

Species: T.undulatus

We'll have to do some groovy ones soon :)

Look forward to it Dom. :)

Thanks very much mate, i go to quite a bit of trouble to get things just the way i like them. The shrimp had dust on him so i think he was long gone :hammer:

I always have but i stopped a few weeks ago and so far nothing bad has happened. I have noticed the water isn't quite as crystal clear as it once was. I have no real opinion yet as to whether carbon helps anything when it comes to my own system but i won't run it now unless i see a reason to.

Thanks for the info on the snails. I thought you said they stay small? I was thinking Collonista snails. Shows how much I pay attention. Lol

Holy crap Andrew, be careful with that stuff! Do you happen to know how many grams of Lanthanum chloride Dave puts into what volume of water? I was looking online for LC, and found it about $100 for 25 grams, so I'm thinking there is only a small amount in each bottle.

So what are N and P at now?

Crazy mate :wildone: - nothing good ever happen fast in reefing. Especially N & P & C - the most essential thing after lightning.
