A Splash of Color

Clearly your vitabiggles has caused that delightful frag to turn into an ugly duckling....

Hahaha, just give it some time, if you don't like it don't throw it over the fence though!!!

Is that all you are dosing for alkalinity 30ml for so much corals?
I am already cranking on 240ml for my 400L tank using Randy recipe 1.

No wonder you say your corals don't grow at all.
I will post up a friend's tank shortly - I have permission from him to post up in a new topic in sps keeper.

This is just amazing Andrew !! I have followed the thread on and off but lately its getting beyond any praise .
Wanted to ask you - when you buy maricultured or aquacultured pieces , I suppose you do dip them in something like Bayers.
Do you suggest taking them off the rocks they come in, dip them in bayers and then put them in tank ?

Regards,
Abhishek

Let me in on the recipe of vitamins biggles. My tank is several weeks from dosing anything and I'll give it a test.

Sounds like the perfect tank to give it a go in Pifey. I must point out that i will be running a blind test trial so i need give you a guinea pig name which will make it easier for me to track your progress, you are now ' LP1 ' Pifey :)

( little piggy 1 )

Beautiful Andrew!
Let me know what the vita biggles mix is. I'm going to add it to my bald spot, see if I can get my hair back to when I was 30

So i take it you think it's all rubbish then Matt lol. I already tried it on my bald spot and unlike the cobalt which actually made more hair fall out i found it added a sexy sheen to my greys........ it tastes like the stuff mom used to paint on my nails to stop me biting them - not nice at all, definitely not intended for human consumption imo. :thumbdown

Tank is looking wonderful! That's a big jump in Alk consumption, seems like what you're doing is working well.

Thanks Conor, the alk rise isn't amazing but it's better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick mate........ dad used to say that all the time when i whined about anything i owned not being as good as my friends one. :)

Nice video Andrew.

What are those tetra looking transparent fish called?

Thanks Bulent, Dave just called them glassfish and said they were actually a brackish water species that might or might not settle in well. Had them for a couple of years now i think mate.

I'm pleased your alk draw is cranking Kevin, colors must be off the charts with all that growth mate - very jealous

Hi mate, i don't dip anything ever so it's just good luck i haven't copped a dose of pests so far lol. If i was you i would take them off the base though and dip them. I have seen thousands of wild collected pieces over the years and still haven't had a chance to see an AEFW in person yet........... it's been made a problem by the trading/fragging nature of our hobby, nothing more.

Day 22 - nothing bad has happened so far, no explosions, STN or random tip burn....... all very boring really....

Your colour placement is superb!

I too find it odd that you only need to dose 50ml of Alkalinity into such a big system? My system is only 350 litres and ive had to up by alk dose to 150ml a day and can foresee having to go even more! Even with minimal growth, in a tank that volume its seems odd :)

Thanks Jay, i stopped the coralline algae growing 12 months back and my alk dropped 50% in 3-4 days. It is still non existent and putty looks new for 6-9 months. Your coral alk draw can be a lot less than you think if you have great coralline growth. ;)

I reckon that sandy yellow Unidentified piece on the right makes your tank. Maybe some deer park magic $30 water and your done ;)

Lol i reckon you're right Sammy.......... a bottle of Dave's $30- dust in a bottle of water might be just what the doctor ordered. When i went to pay he gave me the usual silly total so i shoved another $50- on the counter and said,

' Don't try to hand that back to me or else Dave ! '

Dave then proceeded to blow the $50- note across the counter until it blew onto the floor at mine and Dom's feet............

The skimmer did not like the new tube of putty........

Male lyretail sulking in the acros after getting his arse handed to him on a plate by the dominant cooper's..... you don't mess with mr cooper you silly billy fish..... ;)

A Splash of Color

How does one stop corraline growing ?

Love that last photo!!! Droooooool!

Edit: now that you have made me think of it, my corraline growth is A LOT less than it once was.

It seemed to coincide with my short and very sharp foray into dosing cobalt Jay........ :rolleye1:

My last 30 mins viewing each day is with just the twin blues on along the front of the display. Not as porny as actinic or blue LED but it's not bad. ;)

That stupid bleached branch is giving me the sh$ts........

Pale skins are not known for their pugilistic abilities, unless he starts growing for me i will let the fireworks frag bash him up.......

The reason i like Nick's acro so much is the fact it's going to have stag like growth, should be a bloody nice stag :)

Hey Andrew, it was just a joke. I'm not against adding something to experiment with better colour and growth.
I just started adding Prodibo's Biodigest (bacteria) and Bioptim which probably contains some of the same vitamins you are adding along with some aminos and the familiar trace elements..
I have also had a recent uptick in ca/alk consumption.
I also had a marked general improvement when I was adding Koral color and micro e.
I am no skeptic.I just wish I wasn't losing my hair!

Thats amazing!
:eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1:

It would be amazing if they grew faster mate !

Hey hey hey Matt, i wasn't pee'd off with you lol. I'm sorry i wrote that the way i did mate, it didn't come across the way it was intended. I think the vitamin thing is doing a heap for colors and not a whole lot for growth tbh.

I really find this #$%@^$ hobby a tad frustrating on occasion - now is one such time ! :hammer:

I will try to be patient and give it more time.......... or get some aminos.......... it's a sickness this dosing thing.......... i need a fix as bad as the rest of you lol.....

Did you see the banana yellow frag Sammy gave me............ i bet no one gives you stuff like that do they Matt.........

Hi Andrew,

When you had your last ICP test, what was the strontium reading?

Thanks Jay, it's going to be very pretty in a couple more months with some growth i hope :)

I stopped everything except the basic Randy's dosing 4 weeks ago, No lugols, koral color - nothing. Went back to plain pellets and mysis cubes. 10% water change every two weeks purely to replace trace elements After one week i started to dose 0.1ml of one mix of vitamins first thing in the morning and as soon as the lights were off i dosed 0.1ml of another vitamin mix. After one week i doubled the lights off dose to 0.2ml where it still remains.

All i am using are two separated doses of specific vitamins as i believe we might have all overlooked something very important. The short video is at day 18. No aminos or any other algae feeds, no elements/heavy metals or potions of any sort used. Just a select few vitamins at just the right time - today is three weeks and alk draw is now at 55ml from the starting 30ml.

You never know, might be onto something............ a few vitamins and just water changes to keep nice SPS displays would be a pretty good option when you think about all the other crazy sh$t currently getting dumped in our water depending on the silliness of the methodology........... i'm as guilty as anyone lol.

Vitabiggles has replaced Bigglejuice. Since it doesn't involve toxic substances there is very little excitement as the element of danger is zero. I gave the tank a ten times dose two days running and saw nothing but lots more skimmate. Vitabiggles is hippy approved reef keeping

After a few months of nothing but Vitabiggles i will hopefully be able to show good results with colors and growth for a change. :)

Gee.....I been using the biggle's dosing method for months now....lol
