A Splash of Color

Yea it is a pretty green. I got one similar a few months ago, finally starting to color up.
Like the other new ones you have been adding as well.I'm having a tough time finding the nicer stuff here. Some of my sources have dried up.

Those are some sweet new acros! I'm really liking the pulled back FTS too. It shows how nice your tank is. I'm sure it's been covered in this thread already, I might have even already asked, but do you dip your new corals? If so, what dip do you prefer? Thanks, and Happy New Year bud!

Thanks Conor, you can see with just the two halides running how much light is reflecting back off the large amount of clean sand i have with so little rock. When i turn on the eleven T5's there's not a lot of places left for brown zoa to hide out. I have zero shading issues ofr obvious reasons lol.
I don't dip my corals mate, out of the LFS bag and onto the display bottom.

If you haven't ever tried it and you run radiums - next time you have friends over for a night time BBQ and drinks etc hang one of your reflectors off a tree or something in the backyard and turn it on........... nothing illuminates a back yard BBQ like a radium at night :smokin::beer:
It will also make everyone in the street not invited to the BBQ wonder if an alien spacecraft has just touched down in your yard........ i had neighbors from down the street come ask me wth was making my house glow blue the night before.........

A word of caution though, don't do it too often otherwise your lawn will start to develop blue growing tips.........

Thanks for posting the room shot. Thats useful mate.

I'm confused; are you running your reef at 22 degrees C? Isnt that quite low as far as reefs go? What temp does your reef run between? Do you allow fluctuations?

No probs on the pic mate, the room is 22 not the water. The reef goes from 25.5 to 26.5 C each day according to my digital thermometer thingy.

Andrew I'm glad to see your full recover corals"¦"¦"¦"¦..you understood what happened to your tank?
It makes a bit of hot down there"¦"¦"¦...

No idea what it was that did the damage mate, most likely a contaminant i added inadvertently. It's 22 today and supposed to rain this afternoon so i have no idea what the weather is doing now days.
LED's have destroyed the bloody ozone layer, i can name any number of scientific papers that back that up but then Reefvet will start going on like he does 'you can't just make stuff up to back outrageous claims' and blah blah blah..........

If a lie falls in biggles acro forest journal and Reefvet isn't around to see it fall - is it still a lie............ i think not people :)

Sorry to hear you're having a harder time finding nice corals mate, hopefully you see some cool acros coming in the new year.

Sump - i don't clean it ever but i swish the 6L of matrix around with my fingers at night once a week or so to get the detritus into the water column. Left drip is 150ml alk and right drip is 6L of kalk each day. I have a Tunze 6045 switched off for the pic that keeps a good current flowing around the sump. Cup of carbon in the bag and a few bits of LR. I have 4L of matrix also sitting loose on the overflow bottom, i swish it once a week too.

Love the room shot, Andrew. Gives a whole new perspective.
Every Acro you pull out of your bag of tricks is nicer than the last one.
It's mid winter here and can get rediculously cold and in the summer can get up to mid 30.. Either one is deadly if a kid is forgotten in a car and almost every summer there is a story in the news about a kid being left. But rarely in the winter.. I guess because death would happen dramatically more quickly in the summer.. It's always so damn sad when it happens..
A couple years ago, a sleep deprived father drove to work, parked his car and went to the office.. At the end of the day, he came back to his car to find his kid in the back seat.... No longer alive.. He got distracted somehow on his way to work and just thought he'd already dropped the kid at daycare..
How do you punish somebody who has been through that?.. No punishment could be worse than what he'll have to live with.. Not to mention facing his wife and mother of the child... Ouch!! Sorry!! That is dark!!
Glad to see that shrimp made it
In the winter, my reef sits at around 74 degrees.. Which is about 23. It does just fine..

My wife and I would love not to see snow or cold again, but if my math is right, 108 in the shade is a little warm :)

Thanks Dom, i have all sorts of Dommyduds mate lol. I knew you'd like that acro, i was looking at it and in the background Dave was saying ' there's not much in the tank you'd like sorry........' :lmao: He cracks me up because he still hasn't worked out that he will never be able to predict what will and won't catch the eye of an SPS reefer. I was looking for acros with light bright pigments to lighten up the left island and that glowy little piece fit the bill perfectly.
I know you do ;) I've seen all the hidden goodies you have around the tank you claim not to have! :lol2:
haha he does say that when things are looking a little brown or he wasn't happy with the stock that's left because he knows we love the good stuff but he's always got a gem or two sitting in plain sight that others miss lol I think he just says it to everyone and forgets that we are a little more crazy than most the others :wildone: haha it's a real eye-catcher though!

I'm thrilled to see Potatohead. :)

Thanks Mark, i was over the moon xmas eve when i found he'd come back from the dead. :)

Thanks Matt, the kids in car thing just pee's me off that's all lol. I know once it's happened the parent would die inside and punishment is pointless but at least own it and don't try to blame it on another imaginary modern ailment.
You don't see the guys in the chemistry forum discussing 'forgotten alk syndrome' when someone leaves their bloody doser on.......

I've run tanks at 28-30C all summer when i was in an non air conditioned house with no ill effects, i think you have a fairly wide latitude with temp ranges but not daily temp swings. I've never noticed any visible problem when seeing up to 2C swing daily, i prefer the 1C swing i have now though as the less swings in everything the better for acros as we all know.

My wife and I would love not to see snow or cold again, but if my math is right, 108 in the shade is a little warm :)

It's stinkin hot that's what it is mate ! :hammer:

Dave is on the lookout for a cool green cynarina to go with my bright red one - i saved a poopy green one in the $15- tank, he's in one of those over the top porn pics on the last page lol. Ugly little bugger........
You should get yourself a red/green scolly Dom, Dave has some ones that would easily go for $300- in the US atm for $140-. If you buy one for me as well he might do you a deal i reckon

Since you still refuse to give me the black ear wrasse that was meant for my tank i have asked Dave to get me a very cool and uncommon fish. 'And you are not to ever get one in for Dom if he wants one - i mean it Dave !' (Dom knows i'd actually say that to Dave btw lol)

This acro paled badly for a short time but made it through the 'whatever it was' unscathed. It was green and pink just like the classic SSC pigmentation we all know when at the store but it's lost nearly all the green and is creamy white with the same pink highlights so i don't care what the branches do tbh as long as the pink pigment is there........

My new 400W radiums should be here in the next week or so i hope and i ordered new RO/DI cartridges a few days ago after testing the output with the TDS pen - 4.

I actually don't mind some of the scolly's Dave gets because you need sunglasses just to look at them  I'm sure he would do us a deal, pity we couldn't get one on the feminus wrasse's though :lolspin:

I can vouch that you most definitely said that and probably got weird looks from customers too haha I'm on the hunt for a couple of things at the moment though, sunburst anthias (when I can afford lol) and maybe another cool wrasse like those lennardi he had in a couple of weeks ago!

Pink definitely looks nice on that piece but it doesn't rival the other one you got recently! The acro's will go bananas when you get the new Radiums firing too :D

This baby is so nice.. I love the pastel base with the pink tips. I like it more than ssc colours.

Hi Andrew, the tank looks incredible as ever! The last couple top downs are stunning, and the pic of the tank standing back a few feet is epic. The damn thing actually looks like a splash of color. Keep up the inspirational work mate.

Frankenshrimp Potatohead??? Andrew, mate Kevin says you wired up Potatohead to the Radium ballast and some other crazy things...and apparently thats how Potatohead came back...Is this true?

have lurked in both your threads for a long time. I just want to say F'n amazing talent with your tanks!! I hope and wish my little frags turn out half as good as your corals. Well done!

I'm sure Dave will do YOU a deal since you're paying for both the scolly's Dom - i ain't dropping $140- on a piece of flubber but i think it's ok if you do buddy. Grab me one of those fish since you're in such a generous mood mate.

I just looked back at the shop photo and realised it wasn't really SSC colored at all, more like a dirty browny green hue on the branches. A. frogturdus is the large acro in the background.

Always love to see your tank developed, and some extra fun that you added into reefing.

Appreciate the kind words my friend :)

fantastic tank just read your 19 pages ,great read

Thanks very much mate :)

The first few attempts with the 400W ballast made all the fish sink to the sand so in the end the 250W ballast turned out to be the sweet spot in regards to zombie shrimp creation and not killing all the fish :reading:

Thanks a lot mate, hard work and lots of swearing and cursing is what got me to where i am now.

Collected in the afternoon off the Qld coast in over 30 meters of water. Placed into my display the following evening. Thank you for my little yellow princess Dave.
