Abbott's 40 Breeder

I didn't document this as well as I should have because I rushed it and was embarrassed by the outcome. After rethinking it I am going to put it out there for everyone to see why the experienced folks will always tell the newbies that nothing good happens fast in this hobby.

These a few of the last pics I have from the 20 long I started a few months ago. The RBTA had found a nice spot and looked amazing. I did have to move the Monti but it was growing very fast along with this Slimer.

I decided for some dumb reason that my algae problem was harder to fix because I had no sump. In reality I am just impatient and needed some kind of project to work on
so I picked this tank and stand up from a fellow club member. Thanks for the great deal Tradewinds!

I drilled it and built a large overflow in the left corner out of some acrylic. I heated it with a plumbing torch to put the bend in it.

I didn't take more pics until yesterday. I wanted to put my mistakes out there and then work on resolving the problems. For the time being here are pics from yesterday. About a month ago I transferred the tank contents and added 25 lbs of BRS reef saver rock. I had the rock in saltwater for 3 weeks before the move and tested no phos so i thought it was ok to move forward but I eventually lost the Slimer. I believe it was just a combination of stress from the move and maybe poor acclimation to the leds but it could have been the silicone only curing on the overflow for a week. My levels stayed in check but all the corals looked very stressed. These are from last night. You will see that the top and LEDs have been removed and I went back to my T5 until I get the white/color string in the LEDs updated. It is obviously to small for the tank but the Monti is already coloring back up which tells me I have been cooking my setup with those LEDs.

Here is the Monti I want to show it coming back from the brink, hopefully.

Some GSP frags I am getting ready to meet my donor obligations.

This is the Nepthea I got at the last swap. It is looking good and growing but I am going to grow it out until the spring at very minimum before I try to frag it since I do not have experience in that area. Is that reasonable for club practices or do things grow way faster for others?

I am going to try a better camera when I get back from the racetrack. 1/8 scale RC cars is my other addiction. Thanks for looking, I will try to keep the pics coming from this point.

Happy to be able to pass along the savings that I got when I purchased the system from VSpeck. (I'm still using the tank, sump, and plumbing)

Glad to see that you got water in the tank and that things are starting to grow out for you.

I passed a good deal to tradewinds, I got a good deal from 88mmsbf

Looking good Chris. Maybe think about swapping some of the blue LEDs out and putting more colors in.

IMO you probably lost the slimer due to the tank being so new. Sps just seems to need that 6 month mature mark to do well. I lost sps in my 65 I think due to putting it in too soon.

I am going to slow down and hopefully things will smooth out. I am currently investigating led colors and am going to swap out some whites and possibly add a few others to fill out the spectrum. Luckily the few corals I have seam to be okay with the 4 T5 bulbs for the moment. I just wanted to add a pic to show that I have not done it all wrong.

I liked the pictures. Tank is looking really good.
I bet your monti will bounce back just fine as long as the tank stays stable, I have made some mistakes in my tank almost killing my caps and they have grown back from what I would consider barely a speck of life and color.

Curious if anyone knows what the blue growth is? It has a bubble like structure and some clear tubes. I noticed it a while back and now that it is growing a bit it I am curious about it.
