Found some on a rock at an LFS. Has about 12 polyps with a bunch of plain orange palys growing next to them.

Are the Nightmare palys just a morph of the orange palys?

Are they Rare?

Thanks........

There are so many orange palys out there, which one are you referring to? :D

Pretty unique morph on their own IMHO.

I have a frag of orange palys similar to the ones growing next to the Nightmare palys.

I wish they were organism palys but I was told that they're common orange palys.

I don't think it gets much more common than the organism palys and other names they go by. They are everywhere now.

I think they are "organism" palys as well. Lighting plays a huge role in how much the colors pop. 14-20k metal halides should make those look just like the organism photos on zoaid.

They are just common names, often made up by a retailer or someone that bought them along the way. The exact same zoanthid can have dozens of common names.

I know that there are different names for the same types of zoas/palys. Like mohawks and variable stars.

The palys have that i have have no dusting or sparkling like the nightmare palys do. I have mine under 14000k mh and this frag is at the bottom of my tank.

Are you asking if nightmare "palys" are a morph of organisms? If so, no, not that I'm aware of.
