I found some awesome Anise Swallowtail caterpillars by my friends house on a rainy day and thought Id bring them inside and raise them!

They munch all day on sweet fennel leaves!

Hopefully I'll have more photos when they hatch into butterflies

Nice!! How long until they hatch? Is that correct term? lol

Haha well I just found out that depending on how many hours of light and how warm I kept the caterpillars, it could be a few more days or a few more months. They may have already entered pupal diapause and could be waiting for spring!

I like the eye shots, very cool. He needs to clean those lenses, I see some white fluffy looking stuff blocking them up.

If the critter is sitting still, which I assume it is after it emerges, you should try a tripod and a small aperture and see how much depth of field you can squeeze in there, it would be nice to see a little more in focus.

I'll try that recty. I was using a flash and two prime lenses inverted and it was giving me a little trouble!

Here are some photos from today...Comic Strip style

Wings stretched but its cold again. Most butterflies fly at an optimal temperature of around 80 degrees
