Do Acans crust over surrounding rocks, or do they just grow out concentrically like a swelling dome?

Mine move out over the rocks. In fact, one of mine is encroaching on some green star polyps.

Mine started as a frag of three polyps and one year latter it encrusted the whole rock that I mounted it on. And now its starting to encrust on another rock touching it. Just feed it and watch it grow.
