I picked up a new 6+ head acan 3 weeks ago and it was doing great for the first 2 weeks. I went out of town last week for 7 days and just got back. I look in my tank and everything looks great but the acan; it is completely clean only skeleton left. there are still 2 very small reminants left of 1 of the heads. no signs of deterioration on the leftover pieces. it looks like it was completely picked clean.
I am not sure what could have done this. I think I do have a camel's back shrimp still in my tank although I have not seen it for 2 weeks.however it seems like a Lot for 1 shrimp to eat. I also have two clownfish a coral beauty, and a large reef cleaner group . I have a few different zoas, mushrooms. Another acan that is doing great, hammer coral, and a few sps frags.
my girlfriend watched the tank while I was gone and there was no major issues and nothing off that she noticed. I did have a pump short out in the sump that shocked the heck out of her (she is still mde at me for that one). The current didn't seem to make it to the DT up stairs.
she did however accidentally turn on my water change drain pump once causing 10+ gallons to drian out of the tank. this was no big deal since I had premixed salt water ready to go. so she did a basic 10 gallon water change.
my tank specs :
48 gallon 20 gallon sump
Temp 80 degrees
Salt 1.025
Nitrate 5 ppm
Po4 <.20
Nitrates and po4 r a little high and I'm working on that. Ill be doing another 15 gallon water change tomorrow.
Sorry, but this is the best pick I have of the acan before it died. (It is just left of the redish mushrooms on the middle right)
It's dark red with a green center. I'll take a pic of what's left tomorrow when the lights come back on.
