Acan Placement- can Acans be placed recessed in live rock?

Hello all,
I just placed a beatiful acan in a hole in my live rock which is about the depth of its exoskeleton (the fleshy part protrudes above the live rock). Will the acan still be able to grow beyond this hole? Right now it fits perfectly, but I don't know if acans should have their entire exoskeletons exposed in order to grow. I hope my question makes sense!

It does make sense. To be honest I really don't know but I would not to that. At least in my experience, my acan grow new heads on the sides of their base. They then grow new skeleton and the new head will be facing up or were ever. Hopefully some one can add to this.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll pop it out of there and find another space thanks!

I have a few that are in recesses with no issue. The new baby heads pop up where they have space whether that is next to existing heads or under.
