Yeah i got bit also, could you pm some of your sources?

Those frags on discs are actually frags from my colonies that I ended up selling. The one on frag rock I believe I got that from a reef creation a year or so ago.

When my pieces grow out ill frag them and sell some then farm the seed again. I got so many now they just get rotated around.

Darrell,

I noticed you have changed your lighting from 5 bulb to 6 bulb and changed the bulbs you have used over the past few years. Have you noticed one configuration better than the other? One of your most recent posts indicate four blue plus, one KZ purple, and one actinic. Is this what you currently have and are you planning to switch out any of these bulbs soon? If you had a 4 bulb setup, what would you recommend?

Iceman,

I've always used 6 bulbs. Maybe I goofed and only listed 5 bulbs my mistake...sorry.

The 4 blue plus, 1 kz purple, and 1 actinic is still accurate over one tank, which is my old 39 gallons cadlights.

Over my new 120 I run 8 bulbs, but all 8 bulbs are only one for a very short time, like 20 mins. While the fixture transitions from 2 bulbs to 6 bulbs, they over lap while the 2 bulbs are ramping off and the 6 bulbs are ramping up.

On this tank the 2 bulbs that are used for dusk and dawn are 1 blue plus and 1 actinic. When I'm due up to change the bulbs in Jan I'm going to try 2 blue plus. The other 6 bulbs are 3 blue plus, 1 purple plus, 1 actinic, 1 geismann super actinic (same as blue plus).

If I had a 4 bulb setup, I would try 3 blue plus and 1 coral plus.

I want to setup a frag tank and run 6 bulbs. And what I want to do with the 4 bulb combo is 3 blue and 1 coral plus, and the 2 bulbs will be blue plus. Run the 2 blue plus for 6 hours and the 4 bulbs for 3 hours.

Thanks for the details. I've been running the 4 bulb setup with 3 blue plus and 1 coral plus like you indicated...like the colors I'm getting. On your 39g tank, how long are the lights on? Your frag tank idea got me thinking about how longs lights should be on for rainbow acans and if it does matter. Any thoughts?

Iceman,

My 39 gallon, lights are on for 8 hours. But that tank is nearly empty now, as I will be breaking it down soon.

I run my lights on any tank for 8,9, sometimes 10 hours. For the acans, I'll use 2 bulbs for like 6 hours and the other 4 bulbs for just 3 hours or so. I'll make adjustments accordingly if necessary.

Darrell,

So am I understanding you right, that you have a 6 bulb setup but never have 6 bulbs on at one time. You have 2 bulbs on for 3 hours, 4 bulbs on for 3-4 hours, and 2 bulbs on for the remaining 3 hours of the day?

That is very interesting to me. As they say, imitation is the greatest form of flattery. To get the coloration you do is what we are all looking for. This explains alot to me and I find it very cool! Thanks for all the information you are providing!!

Iceman,

No that's incorrect. They overlap so all 6 are one at some point, but for only like 20 mins.

For instance

2 bulbs turn on at 10am, the start to turn off (dimmable) at 1:40pm and will be completely off by 2pm.

4 bulbs turn on at 1:50pm and will be at 100% by 2:10pm. Then these 4 bulbs will start to turn off (dimmable) at 4:40pm and be completely off at 5:00pm.

In the meantime while the 4 bulbs are dimming off, the other 2 bulbs come back on at 4:50pm and will be at 100% by 5:10pm. Then they will start to turn off (dimmable) at 6:30pm and will be completely off by 7pm.

Thanks for the compliment.
