Acanthurus Fowleri or Not?

LFS' QT is not really QT, unless there are no other fish in the same system as the tang for 6 weeks.

QT to a lfs means they kept it by itself for a while. I've never known any LFS to quarantine a fish in the sense of how we do it. It woulds double the price of any fish.

I'll be very interested to hear about the growth rate of this fish. Hope you keep the thread updated.

I'd be interested in an update as well. I thought I'd mention on my Fowleri I've had a growth rate of ~3/4" per month. That's fast! He's extremely mellow. This is today, at about 8"

How many years it take for him to get to that size? :D

I have two of them in separate tanks, and yes this fish is mellow..

Beautiful, thanks for sharing!

Beautiful fish! 8" isn't too bad, I'm currious to find out if he stays mellow 6 months from now when he starts pushing 12". At that point he will dominate your achilies if he wants to just becuase of his physical size, speed, body weight, and power.

I will let you know in 6 months. He really has a great temperament right now, I see him flash his fins with the AT sometimes, but I don't think he's the instigator. He turns some very interesting colors during these displays, it's quite interesting to watch.

Here's an example, this was taken a month or so ago. I've only ever seen him turn this color once, when I took the picture. Usually his body gets very dark and the white on his tail turns very white.

You can see the little love tap near his dorsal fin from the AT :(

Haha, let me get the camera out :)

He's doing great, I QT'd him for what ended up being about 12 weeks. I'm glad I did because he had a bacterial thing for a little while, but after treatment he loved the QT tank, mostly because he got to eat like a king! Thats something they don't tell you about Fowleri, they're pigs haha. When he first went in the tank, my sailfin decided that he didn't like him, so out came the Sailfin! Now the Fowelri is happy with all of his other docile tang tank mates and is thriving. I have him in there with a Blonde Naso, Yellow eyed Kole and a Spotted Unicorn. He's by far the fattest and lets me pet him whenever I put in a clip of nori :) I'm really happy I decided to get him and even more happy that I Qt'd him properly :D

Here's the best pic out of about a hundred attempts, as nice a fish as he is, he wouldn't pose for a camera shot...

Of course these two will pose for me!

Haha, thats fast! Mine has grown probably an inch or so since I got him in April, definitely growing faster than most of my fish. My spotted tang is starting to take off now and he's the quickest in the tank to get the food.

Chad, have your LFS guys get another one at that price. I would happily pay for overnight shipping : p

haha, I think I got super lucky with this one :) Its a great LFS though, will get me whatever I want for a super reasonable price. Got my 8+ inch Blonde Naso with streamers for like 110 and he's awesome too.

I had to hold back on a pair of (large according to blue zoo and live aquaria) flame wrasses for 325 the other day :debi:

Well, I went ahead with it.
