Acanthurus Fowleri or Not?

YAY! To the dark side, you come :)

That's a beautiful little fowleri you got. How's he doing so far?

Thanks! I honestly had a lot of internal struggle with this fish. Fishbase lists 45 cm not including the tail. That's BIG! But then the "big looking" photos they have list lengths of 28 and 27 cm. And they are very mature looking. Plus all the comments here that I've read saying they are extremely mellow... While I always hope my fish will reach their max length, I also consider that it may not happen. My very healthy powder blue since '06 is still at 5 inches. So, all that said, while I have a backup plan for this fish if it really gets huge, I hope it gets average, and I keep it for many, many years :)

Congrats Peter, great looking fish! I'm interested to see how he fares with your BF's. My old yellowfin tang use to be able to eat an entire piece of chopped shrimp with ease so be prepared to up the amount of food your putting into your tank.

Yeah, I'm really putting this skimmer to the test! I'm hoping he'll be fine with the butterflies. I'm quite good with my trap, so if situations arise where fish need to be removed, I will get it done ASAP.

Happy to report the fowleri is eating small ON Formula 2 pellets very well :)

beautiful fish...
who got the 2.5 inch Aussie Dussy from BZ the other day???
was really thinking hard about her...

I wanted a dussie so bad, but heard they will get HUGE, like max size, and not terribly friendly, which is why I opted for the fowleri. Not that it's any guarantee of success...

That doesn't have to be outside the realm of possibility either. My next house is going to be built around a new, bigger tank. :crazy1:

:lmao: If you say so!

Not that I think it needs changing, it's beautiful. I think somebody needs to start a fish hoarding support group if there isn't already one.

The color changing ability of this fish is really amazing!

The bigger he gets, the cooler it will get. I've seen mine do some interesting changes. Most Acanthurus tangs will change colors based on mood, the lieutenant will literally turn from white to black in seconds.

Well, the fowleri is in the DT. What a stunning fish! Under proper lighting, the "wash" of dark blue haze over his face and parts of his body is just beautiful.
