AccliMate Epic Fail

I had a great time at today's FRAG meeting. Learned how to select the proper camera settings, use Lightroom and Photoshop, won a raffle prize, and bought a few fish using the generous discount offered by our host Studio Blue. Naturally, when I got home I used my AccliMate to gently transition my fish to the higher salinity of my reef tank.

I should mention that I own two AccliMates. The XL and the standard size.I bought the XL first but found that the 1.75 gallons needed for acclimation was way more than I needed for the size of the fish that I was buying. It still makes a great acclimation box and fish trap but I ended up buying the standard model strictly for acclimation. This is the 3rd time I've used the standard model. And this is the worst experience that I ever had acclimating a fish in my life.

I set everything up correctly, cleaned and moistened the glass, moistened the suction cups, set the height, attached the box, got the wastewater drip rate adjusted and walked away. About 50 minutes later the was a loud crash and 1/2 gallon of water and fish was on the floor. So what happened? The suction cups were still attached to my tank in the original location. The screws were still attached to the box in there original location. But the box pulled away from all 3 screws and hit the tile floor.

what fish did you get? fish ok? I ended up getting a peppermint to try to kill 5 aptasia and and $5 zoa... was my first visit and I like the store. Will be going back for more.

I bought 3 chromis and a melanurus wrassse. The melanurus went straight into the sand bed so I'm not sure about him. But the chromis all seem ok. We scooped then up and got them all in the tank in less than 15 sec.

Well so far my peppermint has evicted my two fire fish from their hiding cave and hole. And hasn't even looked at the aptasia. :(

Would rather they used magnets instead suction cups. That is one of my fears with the Acclimate.

Had the exact same thing happen the fourth time I used mine. Wish I had read the reviews on BRS before I bought it. My review was about the fifth describing the same thing. Glad the fish seem okay. Mine was, too.

AZBigJohn I wish I had seen your BRS review before I bought these. Did you ever contact the manufacturer (ReefGently) to let them know what happened?

No, I just posted my BRS review...

I figured it was a known issue with all the previous complaints, and I probably wouldn't use a replacement product if they offered it...

I contacted ReefGently yesterday and they are sending me a new box. They also told me that they had never head of this type of failure before. Not sure if there was a defect with the thread size inside the suction cups or if it's a design flaw that caused my failure. But I'm going to keep a close eye on it in the future.

Wow I just watched a review on this that showed how sturdy they are. I would hate to see that happen to anything that I was acclimating
