acclimating my carpet

I bought a giant carpet anemone today green with white stripes. My black percs took to it right away. Anyway I was wondering how long it will take before he finds a place he likes and attaches. I had to turn off my powerheads because they were blowing him away, is that the right thing to do till he atttaches? Also he was really blown up in the store and looked great under pc lighting I have 2 250 metal halides and he hasnt inflated yet and his mouth is expelled a little. He has only been in there about 4 hours now. My water parameters look fine will he get better?

The light might be a bit too much at this time...I bought a carpet anemone about two weeks ago and it was under vho lights in the store. When I put mine in the tank it was dark, I set the timer for the halide above it off for 3 days and then to on for 2 hours a day and ramped it up a half hour each day from there.

It has deflated several times with a gapping mouth and expelled waste each time but took a full night to reinflate the fist several days. It took almost a week for it to accept food.

I made sure to stir the sand bed a little each night for the first week(advise from a local reefer).

Good luck with yours jguzzino.

My sand layer is not deep at all, my carpet's foot
is partially in the sand and on the front of the overflow.

Here is a pick from a couple of days ago...

If you have a deep sand bed it could sink itself in but should not bury itself completely.

I have the same carpet you do it looks like. I guess I will wait a couple days to turn back on my powerheads I hope my sps will be ok without the flow

Mine ( Haddoni ) attached right away, dug itself in and was all settled in within an hour. Was pretty shocked about the actually. Excluding me moving rocks it hasn't moved. I think that your SPS will be fine. A haddoni can handle a decent amount of flow -- indirect -- just make sure it isn't be folded over itself.

I'm not sure i'd shut the powerheads off... remember, they are mostly water and they need to be able to contract and expand so as to rid themselves of toxins. If it hasn't attached to anything (even rock??) at this point i'd just point the powerheads at the walls to diffuse the flow.

What is the status?

My carpet enjoyed intermittent flow from my closed loop through 4 outlets (using a sea squirt.) You could get a similar effect using powerheads and something like the red sea wavemaster. It won't like powerful direct flow 100% of the time just pointed at it from a powerhead jet.

I'd try to set it up in a spot where there is a rock on a good pile of sand, and the ability to shade itself (and its foot!) from the light. I'd down the light a little (maybe 4-5 hrs/day) then up it gradually after the anemone is looking better.

jmo, hopefully a real expert will chime in.

Well the good news is he has attached to a rock today near the sand floor he is looking pretty good although he has not gotten as big yet as when I seen him in the lfs tank but my clowns are loveing him and I think making it easier for him to adapt

Curious to see the progress so Im going to tag along. I can't decide what anemone to go with so I am trying to see how others fair and likes and dislikes.

Very good news jguzzino, I think yours has made it over the acclimation hump:)

Hey Toddrtrex that blue haddoni looks great! I hope you have good luck with it:)
