Achilles and powder blue tang?

So whats the odds a achilles in a 180 will be friendly with a powder blue in a 180? I have a nice achilles and a few other tangs hippo, yellow, dijardini and a Kole tang. They all get along besides the achilles and hippo. The achilles picks on her. The powder blue is my favorite tang besides the achilles and wanted to get one and the LFS I go to has one in their reef tank and its very healthy. So what do you think thumbs up or down

I think you're pretty tanged out already in a 180g, if you are seeing any tickiness w/ what you have I would not expect it to get any better adding more.

Thumbs down. A 180 is too small for the Achilles by itself long term and you have a lot of tangs that will only get more aggressive with age and size.

My Achilles would take out the powder blue in under 10 seconds. Another problem you're going to face is they're from the same family, even more chances of problems.

sorry, just a 'no no' for powder imho. pretty sure one of them will lose the battle, then mayb ur hippo stress out, i smell itch outbreak!! but this is only my opinion.

I had a pair of whitecheek tangs that seemed to be okay with each other, but the second I put them in the display with the powderblue tang, it was instant aggression. The powderblue is fine with a foxface, naso, vlamagni, sailfin, and chevron tang in the display, but it would absolutely not tolerate another like body. It even gave no issue with the acanthurus pyroferus that I had (mimic tang), but the whitecheeks were a no go. And as similar as those are to achilles tangs, I would bet the conclusion to be similar (and my display is a 300 gallon tank, 6'x3' footprint).

If you do decide to do it let me know, I will come over and be waiting with a net to pull out whichever gets whooped on. Also whoever doesn't get that crap beat out of him will almost assuredly get ich from the stress

I agree with dmorty217, will def be stress level if you add an achillies, they will def not get along in that small of a tank.

If you decide to go thru with it, I want a ringside seat. ;)

 Yeah, me too!

Even in a very large tank, I could never personally get an Achilles and a Powder Blue to get along. The established fish almost always beat the stuffing out of the newcomer. I currently have a similar collection of Tangs in my 265 (substitute a Purple for the Kole) and I'm pushing things. I am still thinking about getting a Chevron, but that's about it.

I have successfully put them together along with 3 yellow tangs, I did it with a acclimation box until the existing tangs did not pay attention to him any more and increased the feeding . When they were released there was no aggression, a small amount of posturing took place. No more than with any other species. To date there has never been chases or fin nipping. It has a lot to do with the individual fish and their pecking order in the aquarium. The acclimation box worked well for me. It takes patience and a good strategy, but I think it can be done.

I currently have both in my 325g display. My Achilles is over 7 years and my powder blue is about 6 months. I added both to my new display with in 1 day of each other. So far there has not been much aggression but I have seen my powder blue chase away my Achilles on occasion. Hopefully it will work out long term as these are 2 of my favorite fish.

I tried once before adding a powder blue to my existing Achilles and it did not work, my Achilles would not accept the new PB.

So I would only do it if both are added at the same time and if there is enough room for them to coexist, probably 220g minimum.
