Achilles QT

Grizzled & Cynical
I'm sure I asked this once before but, well, I cannot find it ....

What's the prevailing wisdom on QT for an Achilles? Prophylactically treat with cupraming, CP, prazipro? If yes, as opposed to just observing, I have a 20L hospital tank, will that suffice?

I treated mine in qt. I wouldn't put any tang in my tank with out treating cause they are Ich magnets I put mine through 4 weeks of cupramine. I then did two weeks of prazipro. My new batches of fish have been treated with cp and they are all doing great in my dt now.

As for Achilles go, 55 gallon qt is the smallest I'd go, waterflow, waterflow, waterflow, treat with prazi and Cu or CP.

How big is your achilles? The bigger the better with these guys even in QT...They swim "A LOT" and if confined to small spaces it will stress them out even more. Our achilles grew 2" in the last year we had him and we're already getting ready to upgrade from a 6' to an 8' tank because of the swimming he does. I was incredibly stupid and incredibly lucky when I got my guy, I didn't QT...but I would never do that again and you're definitely on the right path by setting up a QT.

Well, don't have the fish yet, just planning in anticipation of. Just upgraded to a 7 ft 265 for a number of reasons, the ability to keep an Achilles bring just one of them.

I qt my 3" Achilles in a 10g doing TT for 3 weeks with prazi. Also did the same method for a 5" hybrid (Achilles/goldrim). After qt they live in separate 10g for 2+ weeks for observation. The 5" wasn't happy but its doable.

Damn, I can't imagine a 3" Achilles in a 10 gal. Even for a short period of time. The last time I QT'd one it was done in a 29 gal. The fish was probably around 3 inches as well. It was in there for 9 weeks. It would circle the tank, round & round... but it made it. I think putting a couple of PVC caves, on opposite sides of the tank helped. It seemed to swim laps around the tank, always going thru the 2 PVC caves. Gave the poor bastard something to do.

I wouldnt qt anything in a 10g tank much less an AT!! Mine has been in a 55g qt for 9 weeks. About to hit the dt next week.

I disagree. I qt all my fish in either a 10g or 20g. It is easier to perform TT with smaller tank. I know they are unhappy in a such a small confinement. But in the end, they are healthy and enjoying life in a 300. JMO ...

Best I'm going to be able to do is a 30L. Will throw in a couple of voyager stream pumps, for flow and I think will be OK. Got to find a healthy AT now!

TT followed by 2 rounds of PP and you should be good to go. If not I like cupramine at the half dose for longer or some quality CP would also work wonders more quickly than cupramine

I picked up a bag of CP a few months ago but have not had occasion to use it yet. Not sure if it is 'quality' or not. I got it from the eBay guy, so assume it is good. Shady reef dealings :)
