Achilles Tang and Yellow Tang

I just introduced an achilles into my 130 gallon. I already had a yellow and hippo tang in the tank. The hippo tang has totally ignored the achilles but the yellow tang has been harassing him for about two days now. They are pretty equal in size. Is it most likely that they will work things out or should I start looking for a new home for one of them?

Hard to say. I've kept Achilles and Yellows together on a few occasions and they generally co-exist. Was the Achilles eating well before you put it in the tank? Is it swimming in the open or cowering in a corner? Did you QT it?

I love both fish, I hope they play nice. Nothing beats that stunning yellow of the yellow tang, and that Achilles is a grail of tangs to many.

Achilles is a difficult fish to get eating, and highly suceptible to skin parasites. Given no QT, and that you plopped it into a tank with an established yellow tang, I'd not think its prospects to be very good. If you see physical damage, or the fish fails to eat within a short period of time, you'll have to remove it.

I have kept one in the past with no issues and I had a yellow then too. Any suggestions on best starting foods?

I've had a half dozen over the years and always had the best luck starting with brine or nutramar ova. Latter is not really available anymore, so try brine. Live if you can get it. Once it starts to eat, you can transition to a varied diet. My current specimen eats pretty much everything.

Was it eating at the store? If so, have you tried whatever that was?

Amazing fish the Achillles. When my buddy helped me set up my first tank to repay him I said I'll get you any fish you want. He chose an Achilles. It lived for a few months and then just died one day. I was sad. Such a beautiful fish. But I guess they are tough to keep.
