AchIlles tang care

We had ours quarantined for 6 weeks before he went into display. All of our fish in our display are 6+ years old so there is no way I would ever risk adding a fish without QT.

Ya that's what I was thinking but he will be the first fish in the tank because we recently lost everything to ich. Also the person were buying from says there pre quarantined but idk

depends a bit on the pre-qt. On whether or not you can trust him. my favorite LFS I wouldn't trust the owner, but one of his employees was awesome. -expert(Had a really nice SPS tank-knew requirements for all fish). If he had a fish for long enough and he said it was good for a DT I'd trust him. He never steered me wrong and I never had any disease.

The person you are talking about? hmm.. 2 weeks seems short, especially for ich. I believe copper only works when Ich is in the swimming around phase right? (not when cysts and not in the up to 4 weeks they are on the bottom of the tank).

I wouldn't trust it, but if it's your first fish back in and you are prepared to treat the ich it might have then I'd do it. -I would QT all other fish he gave me though.

Okay thx

Okay. So your tank is a 120gal 4 foot long correct? My understanding was that they need length and not so much height so I figured he would be fine. How long did it take him to reach this size?

About 1 1/2 year, and yes my tank is 4 foot long. It should be fine in a 6ft tank for a while until it outgrows it. Aquascape has to do with how much space it actually have to swim around freely too.

Well like I said we only have about 80 pounds of rock. We were trying to use the minimalist there with over hangs and that stuff so we don't have a giants rock wall like most ppl and we have less rock then most ppl in its tank size. Thanks for that cuz now I'm going to be rethinking. I think I will get one because we definitely have enough flow and I heard ich and getting them eating is the main issue so hopefully my buddy will get some in sometime soon

I'm looking into getting an Achilles tang for my 125g. It's 6ft. long. Would it be safe for me to take such an action? I plan on going bigger but not any time soon.

When we first got our Achilles he was in our 125. He was about 3 1/2", only lasted in there about a year before he outgrew it. That was over 4 years ago...he's now 7 1/2" and in a huge 8 ft tank.

A 125 makes a good QT for a Achilles but won't provide you much more than that as far as a good tank for housing a AT goes.

awesome

awesome

very true

In my opinion, that is inadequate. Worse if the dosage is less than therapeutic. If you do not quarantine, you should assume it is not quarantined.

also I agree that there is no such thing as pre-quarantined. I think they do some sort of pseudo quarantine and start assuming that it is pre-quarantined.
