What do you think about adding an achilles to a tank with a lavender tang that is somewhat agressive? Use a mirror to move the attack away?

Thanks, but there is a number of people who have posted with smaller tanks hat host achilles tangs. I understand an adult would do better housed in a 300 gal. I am talking about a 4 in fish, and i will upgrade to a 240 gal min in next year or so. I have alot of flow, and over 150 gal total water in the system. I have chem and mech. filtration, and keep my water chemistry in check with regular water changes and monitoring.
Is my tank really too small?

yea my tank is not new new but recently upgraded had a 55. wanted to put him in the upgraded tank soon after it got set up thought than there wouldnt be as many territory disputs. but all the live rock and water was from my old tank just new sand bed that really gives it that new tank look. lol

Once you get an Achilles you would soon realize why a lot of people are saying you need a large tank. Particularly 6' in length at the least. If you are upgrading in the near future it definitely would help...

But what is the issue at hand, territorial or the need to swim great amounts. I have read that there are a number of small fish kept in home aquariums that would swim tens of mils a day, but do fine in captivity. The lfs holding mine say it looks great, and is eating well. it will have been there over a week by the time i get it home. no signs of illness yet they say

They love to swim in very strong currents at great speeds. Once established in a tank they will keep moving relentlessly..
how long did it take in everyones system to start eating well? mine is still being picky he eats some food spuritulabrine shrimp but he eats some and other pieces go in his mouth and then he spits it out. also doesnt touch the algae clip that is right by him. he does eat what floats by him though when little chunks fall off is he going to be doomed. only been in tank for 2 days. thanks
These fish are hard to keep. Bigger tanks are pretty much the norm with successfull keeping of these fish. The 100 gallon guide there is outdated, and keepers of this fish have found out that first hand.
I can respect that people want to keep these fish, They are beautiful fish.
Be responsable, Far too many times have i seen people ignore the advise given and try to write the book to fit thier needs.
Keeping them in a tank thats under 6 ft is most likely a death sentence. Good luck! I wish it wasnt so.

well i guess its time to upgrade. Whats the min size, would a 180 do or should i just go with like a 240. would a shallow reef, like 18 in do or is deeper better. i have had every intention of keeping this fish, and was under the understanding that 100 was ok, so a 125 with decent sump would be good. oh well i guess i will see how it goes, and work on an upgrade.

If he is eating well and no Ich you're doing very well. Once established they get quite strong.
As he outgrows your tank there is a risk of stress then Ich outbreak...
