pran,

As a concept for adding nori without splashing yourself. I took some fishing line and attached it to the top of my hood and hung an algae clip to it. The clip hangs about 10" into the water. I can now pull it out of the tank by the line and add nori without reaching into the tank. It's also kinda cool how it sways in the current when there is algae attached to it. If you don't like the look, you just pull the line and pull it out of the water once they have eaten all of it.

hey...the issue is not taking the rock out of the tank, I use the tongs to do that, its just when I un rubberband the rock to put the sea weed and then put the rubber band on, it splashes

thx for your advice tho, I will try that too

I am lazy now, I just put the sea weed every two days

anyone have any idea how I can get it to eat other food? lol

thx

Pran

I don't know what foods you've tried so far, but mine only eats nori and formula 2 flakes.

I've tried both hikari and PE mysis, brine, nls pellets (marine and thera A), and fish roe and mine only eats nori. Maybe I should try some flakes?

Since the pieces of nori he eats out of the water column are very similar to flakes I can see why those might work.

actually mine started the same way with only nori what i did was i got Rogger's Reef Food and i rubber-banded it to the same rock as the nori its very meaty and holds together and he loved it

If you are feeding from a clip wrap some of the other food up in the nori. Kinda of like a food cigar or pinata

Thanks for the suggestions!

I am feeding him off of a clip but he will also take the nori out of the water column. I tried wrapping up some NLS pellets in the nori but he still didn't eat them. I'm going to try it again with some mysis or brine and hopefully trick him into eating some.

I tried this again with frozen brine shrimp tonight and it worked perfectly! My achilles accidentally ate a few pieces of the brine that I hid in his nori, and now when I dumped a cube of brine in the tank he was eating it out of the water column. Thanks for the great idea!

thats awesome dude

which kind of brine shrimp did you try?

also...try NLS pallets and see if it eats that too?

I used hikari brine shrimp (without spirulina). Now that I got him to eat that he also eats both the hikari mysis and PE mysis. The trick was just getting him to eat that first piece, and now he eats it very aggressively.

I haven't gotten him to eat NLS yet but I'm going to try hiding some in the nori again and I'll let you know how it goes.

hey dude any update with the pallets

No, he still won't eat them. I try hiding them in the nori, but my large melanurus wrasse smells them and then shreds up the nori to get to them. Because of that the achilles hasn't been able to even get a taste yet.

How's your achilles doing? Did you get him to eat other foods?

Mine has turned out to be a pig since I got him skinny a month and a half ago. Eats everything but arthemia/brine. Lots and lot's of pellets though.

It started eating artemia/brina yesterday also. My pellets are herbivore garlicsoaked pellets. It loves them and I can handfeed these to my imperator and achilles. They both continue picking on my fingers once all the food has been devoured.

i just got an achilles yesterday from a shipment from singapore. i added it to my qt yesterday and it had very mild ich. i tried to feed it today and there wasnt any feeding response at all. i tried everything from soaked mysis, the frozen nori food i feed my other tangs, and nori sheets.

how do you get your achilles to eat and how many days was it with you before it started to eat?

My achilles was eating nori right out of the bag and I got him straight from a wholesaler. It took him a couple weeks to learn to eat anything other than nori, but now he is the most aggressive feeder in my tank. From reading this thread, it seems that nori is usually the first food that an achilles will take to.

How big is the quarantine tank you are keeping him in? One of the keys to keeping an achilles is a low stress environment, and a small quarantine tank will stress them out. For that reason I added mine straight to my 180 gallon display tank. If your tang is stressed, it might be difficult to get him eating. Keep in mind they also need a lot of water flow to feel comfortable. If your QT doesn't have much flow, that will stress him out too.

I wouldn't be too worried by the fact that he isn't eating yet after only one day, but I would be worried because he has ich. What are you planning on doing to treat him?

This not only puts the Achilles at risk it also jeopardizes your entire tank. Not in my opinion a move worth taking. I am waiting on my Achilles Hybrid to arrive and when it does it will be going in a 30L QT with a Koralia 4 for flow and a hang on Emperor 400 filter.
