Acro Grow test

Skimmer Guy
Just thought I would share a little test That David(gondore) and I are doing. I fragged us each two pieces of acro the same size. Our tanks are pretty similar but he is running 2 250 radium halides with 2 54 t5's for actinics. I am running 6 t5 ho with aquatinic reflectors. 3 ati blue + 1 aqua science 22k, 1 aqua science 15k, and one ati aquablue special. Should be intereting to see the difference in how they grow out. both frags were about a inch+ Should be interesting over time.

David,

You should post the pics if you have them. It would be neat to see the growth and color difference of the two.

Can you also keep track of tank parameters as these will probably be different also.....it should be interesting

I just tested mine today and brought things back in order as I had been baggin frags .
Ph 8.3
ammonia trates and trites at 0
Alk is at 9
mag is at 1400
CA is 440
temp 78.5+- .2
Saltinity is 1.024
Dave and I both dose calcium through our controllers. He has a neptune ACIII and I have the digital aquatics reefkeeper lite. So both systems are pretty similar. I know keeps his system parameters real similar to what mine are.
phosphates were 0.00 last David checked checked,

lol, I think that we both have limited space and we will put them where we can. Mine is about mid level.

here is a little pic of the guy.. DAve will have to post his

Alright, here is my pic. It was taken under actinics so it's a bit blue but you should get the idea of the size:

As for position I will probably experiment some.

I would say my frag rack is about half way up the side of the tank. I am not sure I am going to leave it there though...we will see.

This will be interesting. I know after seeing Davids tank the other night his SPS is growing out at a pretty fast rate.
What are you shooting for? A month or two comparison?

I was thinking maybe three months. This would give us long enough to see significant growth. What were you thinking Jesse?

I just figured it would go on for as long as we wanted to. maybe 3 months 6 months year ect...

Yeah, maybe we will do updates like monthly or something. If the coral does well where I have it positioned now I will just try to a picture from the same angle each month to give a good idea of growth.

I love SPS corals. They are the best. Beautiful frags, and wonderful idea. It'll be a nice comparison.

Have you guys noted dosing and things like that as well? Or are you monitoring the parameters on this system? Things like Calcium and other trace elements play a large factor is SPS growth (IIRC) and would be interesting to have notes on these as well.

Best,

Paul
