Hi Acronic!
Your Reef has a beautiful aquascaping. The frags are fantastic.
Great growth of the corals.
Are you liking to use the method balling? Do you use since the beginning of the assembly of the tank?
Congratulations!!

Really nice, Acronic! I'm building a peninsula, too, and your aquascape has given me some good ideas.

I love your corals!

thank you, I have been using this method since the start of the tank and love the stability. I havent messed with it once yet, truely set and forget.

I also have been running 500ml Biopelets in a tlf 150 with an Ocean Runner 2500 on a 200 gallon net system with positive results so far.

They are indeed reef safe, just not the best suited enviroment for them. The even feed on red bugs. I cannot believe the timing of your post as not 20 mins ago i went to check the tank and one of the pair has sadly past last night...

I have great news and bad news to share. The bad news is I somehow managed to introduce red bugs into my tank. I notice them on one of my acros tonight. I promptly removed the coral and dipped it in coralRX. During my examination I believe only one coral had the red bugs on it, I sure hope im right. After treatment there seemed to be about 30-40 red bugs in the tupperware. It took approx 45 mins for all the red bugs to die, some much quicker. There seem to be only a couple left on the acro that are not moving but a second treatment will have to be done tomorow.

The great news wich i am most excited about is that i got to witness AND get a video of my trochus snail spawning together!!!!!!! Im over the moon about this one as these are all captive breed snails from my previous tank producing the third generation of snails. This is the first time in over a year that they have spawned. I have a much better understanding of the spawning process now and why the trochus is so successful at sustaining new populations compared to egg laying snails such as nassarious and cerith. The sheer number of larva in the water column is outstanding compared to the few thousand eggs a nassarious snail lays on the glass. Getting to watch the females release batch after batch of larva or eggs and the males releasing sperm was quite the satisfying sight. Ill upload the vid soon so everyone can watch!!!! Sorry about the red bugs. I just finally noticed my banded had spawned in my tank as well when i noticed around 5 or 6 of them about pea sized the other night. Love your tank setup btw.

Thanks, Im not too worried about the red bugs. Im just glad its not AEFW. Ive had to deal with red bugs in the past and its not the end of the world. Ive never had AEFW but they seem like a PITA.

Thats great about the snails, I remember the last time it happened I had no idea untill they grew out a little bit. There were hundreds, I had to give some away through my local club. Im excited to see how long it takes before I start seeing the babies roaming the tank. My MP40 will not be happy. The baby trochus broke that thing at least 10 times. Now that they are grown up it doesnt happen anymore because they are too big to get in the cover.

Wow...that video was really cool!! And they were at opposite sides of the tank and timed it perfectly. Mother nature is truly amazing!! Thanks for sharing.

I have two frags of cali? Tort and both are losing tissue at the tips, they are in seperate locations in the tank. Are there any known issues with Torts in general? these are the only frags with tissue loss.

great looking frags! Lots of ORA guys in there.

Double check your alk if you are noticing some damage to the tips.

ive just checked the params

Alk - 6.5 dkh (6.5 to 7.5 is the norm)
cal - 480ppm (solid number, never strays)
mag - 1360ppm (drop from 1410ppm over 15 days on purpose)
SG - 1.0266 (just recalibrated today)
temp - 79.5 steady
PH - 8.14 - 8.26
PO4 - undetectable on Elos (never believed it)
NO3 - 2.5ppm

I have been away skiing for the last week and Im wondering if it is a lack of food as I am running vertex Bio pellets (500ml for 200 gal tottal system volume) I had an auto feeder set up for pellet food but it was turned off by my mother inlaw when she came over during our absence (not her fault, I had it connected to the light switch for the basement and did not explain that to her.)

It is puzzling why it is onlt the torts that suffer and everything else is dong great... Any other ideas?

its official! I have spotted the first baby trochus snails!!!!!! I sense some new pumps in the future...

they are still kicking, Ive chalked it up to a flow problem. I fragged one and changed location of the other to a higher flow area. it seems as though the ID I got on them was wrong, since you posted that thread about the hoeki? thats what I have with the green rings in the coralites.

Im so brutal at learning the names of the corals...sigh

sigh, I moved the system on july 7th and I woke up on july 8th (the day before my bday) to the smell of death! The heater malfunctioned and the rubbermaid bin was like a hot-tub.... *tear**sniff*. well anywho enough sobbing. I have started over and will have some photos to post in the next few days. Dont you wish RO water came out of the tap!

man thats a bummer, number one rule with expensive corals and a heater, get a good controller. i run a apex and have never had an issue, that an heaters just large enough to heat the water slowly, took almost a week to bring it up from 60-78 when i set the tank up. hope your rebuild works out well for you.
