Nice round of pics Bro! I just started dosing Microbe lift's Special Blend again to pick up the good bacteria concentration in my tank and to help with a few cyano spots.. This has worked wonders for me and some others who stuck to the biweekly maintenance dose with Cyano issues.. I will let you know how it works out this time around. Red slime remover had my skimmer going nuts for three days when I tried it.. Either way... looking freakin' FANTASTIC!

well, kinda simple

some never worked, some worked just for a very short while

while some did work but also killed some corals

in Hongkong and China, some experimented with antibiotics--so far the most effective and also dangerous way to eliminate cyano

Thanks Jon, How did the chemiclean work for you? Is special blend similar to coral snow? Is it just a polymer that attracts protiens to skim out?

Yep the agree on protein skimmer going berserk. Do proceed with caution when adding these agents. Mayb at reduced dosages.
I would definately back Jon on adding beneficial bacteria also with carbon dosing which will help kill the nutrients IMHO. Let the good bacteria win over the evil ones :uzi:
Give the rocks a brush down and basting then increase the overall flow in the tank. And maybe a biweekly water change, till things get in control.
How's temperature holding up? is it fluctuating?

Sorry for the rant. Just putting up some points that came to my mind which might give a push to treat cyano in the best way

RN hit it on the head. It is a bacterial additive and I'm assuming that Coral Snow is similar, but every time I read the description on a little blue bottle, I end up a little more confused than when I started. LOL. Those guys are marketing masterminds.

As for chemiclean....it destroyed the cyano and some of my other beneficial bacteria causing my PO4 to hike up for a bit. Cyano started coming back after a week. Definitely not a product that I would suggest for a reef.

Hmm, now I'm having second thoughts on using it... I have a nice shipment of coral common today from Darryl so I will not be dozing it till at least next week.

Would adding vinegar not feed a different strain of bacteria to out compete the cyano? Maybe I should try adding special blend or Zoebak with vinegar and see what happens before using the cyano killer.

Darryls coral pack has arrived and all the corals are in great shape! It is obvious he has experience shipping corals. The package was extremely well boxed, corals double bagged and labeled. He used a heat pack inside a heavy duty foam box. The box spent about 25 hours shipping and the water dipped to 64 degrees, so a second heat pack would be recommended for colder temps. The fact that the sps are in great shape even though the water got so cold tells you how healthy and hardy his corals really are (they are frikkin' awesome to say the least). They are acclimating right now and I should have a photo update tonight or tomorrow.

Im glad/relieved to hear they arrived well. The truth is I have never shipped corals. Received, yes, ship...no. I made sure I bought a good insulated box and 40hr (ya right) heat pack. 64degrees isnt ideal but its not too bad. I think my mistake was not wrapping the heat pack tighter in newspaper. Had I had an extra heat pack the same way it would have only supplied more heat but burned out the same time (I think). The box was not large.

Interesting that you are drip acclimating the frags. Personally I have never done this....after floating the bags for a while....in they go.

About the cyano. Personally I have had good luck with warner marine ultimate snow (which seems the same as zeo coralsnow). Also I have heard good things about microblift but its hard to find.

Are you blowing your rocks off at least once a week with maintenance? You will find that helps keep your rock nice and clean and stops algae from getting a foot hold on the rock.

Well you did a good job for your first time, thats for sure. All is well and I have the photos to prove it.

I drip acclimate everything. The bags were a float for 2 hours then 45 mins on the drip.

Thanks for the tips for the cyano, its starting to get the best of me. I always baste the rocks, every few days. The fox and yellow tang love baster day because after frour or five days of cyano GHA has a chance to take foot under the cyano. Once I baste it, a fresh patch of GHA is avail for grazing.

I wish the pic of the sunset montipora was more accurate. It is washed out in the pic. It is mind blowing under just the reef brite. def the brightest coral next to the green milli. I sense an encrusting Monti addiction in the future.

Now that I have lots of sweet sticks I want to up my LPS collection again. I think I may start hunting down some stunner chalice corals.
