Acrylic Qs

I am contemplating going acrylic for my next tank and need some info.
I know about the scratch factor.
I saw comments about heat and stress in Chelsey's thread about her cracked nano.

The tank would sit (short end) about 6.5-7ft from a wood burning stove. The stove gets used maybe 10 times over the winter. Probably more if it was colder.
Right now the 125 glass sits about the same distance away. I have never noticed any increase in tank temp or the wood stand even being warm to the touch when the stove is in use.

Would it be a problem for an acrylic tank to be that close to the stove?

Also who else besides Arsenall and Fade have a tank built by ART?

I dont think it would be a problem about the heat. I know that ReeferRon has one also. Other than the scratch factor I love my Tank if you want to come see it your more than welcome to.

Fade, I will take you up on that offer when I can find some time and some clean socks.
How did the 300 in your garage crack?

Ok, other than fade, arsenal and GWA, anyone else wit han ART built tank?
Only wondering because all three are relatively new tanks~ little over a year if I'm not mistaken.

Chelseys tank that cracked was a Glass tank not acrylic.

Scratches in Acrylic can be easily removed unlike scratches in glass which are there forever.

ALL of beldts new corals tanks are ART.
Most if not all of Marine Solutions tanks are ART.

ReeferRons tank is going on three years now I think and I know that ms does alot of art tanks that has been running for years. The 300 that I have was running for around 3 years and from what I can tell is unlevel surfice. I really dont know anyone on here that has a art tank that has been running for long but I can say that mine is very well built.

Sorry, I was refering to her thread about the cracked nano.

The comments I was refering to were from Howard about heat and stress causing fade's 300 to crack.

It wasnt mine I picked it up for free to play with the acrylic. But here is some pics.

Oh Velco at Aquatic Treasures tanks are ART too.

The 315 here in the shop is probly atleast 4 years old if not older.

It was not Fades tanked that crack, no one knows how it did, he just owns the remains now :).
I say it was 400w MH running 12 hours a day with no ventalation sitting ontop the acrylic with a crooked stand and too much live rock in it, with someones belly resting on the top of it trying to figure out how to clean the inside.

As you can see, ART welds held, It was extreme stress that cracked it, not weak acrylic or faulty material.

Go acrylic !
