griss' Tank Upgrade Thread

Forgot to mention, I testing last night and got no ammonia, almost zero nitrite and the nitrates are coming up.

I also got a Flipper glass cleaner delivered and a data only cable for the Hydros for when I set up the collective.
You mean this tank will not magically clean the glass by itself?

Noticed a couple more hermits in the 40 and moved them over. I’m going to keep watching for those and snails and move them as I find them.

Trying to decide if I should wait for the ugly stage to be over before moving the fish.

Must have missed it you went Hydros on this set up?
What did you get?
When I ripped my Lagoon down I got rid of a ton of Hydros stuff.
Great system. I still am using allot of it.

I don't have the Hydros set up yet. The new tank is just running bare bones at the moment. I am running a WaveEngine and OctoPulse 2s on the old tank right now because my billion year old Jebaos finally kicked the bucket.

My used tank came with an X3 and an XP8. When mhurley got out of the hobby, I bought his components from him and got an X2, WaveEngine, and I think an XS. I also got the following from him: the 2 OctoPulse, fish feeder, rope leak sensor, skimmer sensor, and a couple other ancillary things. There's something I'm forgetting because I know I have 6 controller components.

I still want to build a controller board for it all.

At an LFS this morning and I mentioned the new tank is on the ugly phase. The guy working there asked if I’d tried phyto for the diatoms. He said he was having diatoms issues in one of the tanks and tried Bulldawg Reef Juice - Diatom that cleared it up fast. So, I grabbed a bottle.

I also got a bottle of Professor Polyps Bubble Bath to use as a coral dip going forward.

Now I’m waiting on the parking lot for the next LFS on my itinerary to open.

Picked up a One-Spot Rabbitfish at the second store.

Our son, who was with me, came home with a Cane Corso / English Mastiff puppy.

The boy still lives at home and has been wanting a dog for a while. When we lost our one dog last month, we told him he could get one in a month or so. The pup is adorable and, so far, very easy going.

Well enjoy the new puppy! It will probably bring a lot of love, life and excitement into your house.

Congratulations.

Just got my new corals in the tank. Thanks again.
Thanks. It was great meeting you.

Petland didn’t have as much variety as my last visit but, I’ve been looking for that fish for a bit. Their prices are pretty good, I paid $20 less than I’ve seen them going for online.

Yes, he will. Our 6 year old Newfie missed Macy who passed last month. I think this will be good for all of us. This pup is already showing us what a character he is. Loves his people.

The Rabbit.

It is a good system easy to use and reliable. Mhurley there is an old name.

Yeah, I hate to see anyone leave the hobby, especially a friend. I’ve made a lot of good friends on here over the years.

Control 4 is the other component I got from mhurley.

As those of you who have known me a while, I tend to go with a very low fish load in my tanks and focus more on corals and inverts. I want this tank to be different. I want a decent fish load for a 150. I currently have 4 Chromis, Aiptasia Filefish and One-Spot Rabbit. When I move the fish over from the 40, I'll be adding 2 Clarkii Clowns, Strawberry Pseudochromis, Six-Line Wrasse and Fiji Blue Devil. What else would you add? I'm especially interested in dither fish. I'm leaning towards a small school of Bangaii Cardinals and...????

No tangs George? A bristletooth tang will help with nuisance algae. I've not had a lot of luck with so called dither fish, anthias, chromis as they seem to kill each other off until there are only 1 or 2. Bangaii can be that way although Pajama cardinals are more accepting of each other but not as cool looking as bangaii. Personally blennies are so fun. In your tank maybe a Starry blenny since you have some aggressive fish.
