Added a new fuge to my tank w/ pics

Well I finally bit the bullet and added a fuge to my tank.
I had some time to kill today so I decided to tackle this one.

There are two overflows on the back of the tank, I took one of them and rerouted it from the sump to the fuge, so only %50 of the return water goes through the fuge.

The other overflow goes right to the sump as it always has.

Now I'm looking for a 18"-20" PC light for the fuge.
As you can see my little tiny light is not going to cut it for very long.

I drilled my first tank on the end, and then after I placed the fuge tank in it's place I realized that it made it WAY too long so I had to redill another tank on the side so it could dump right into the sump.

What do you guys think?

steve use a halogen flood lamp on the fuge. Thats what I use on mine and my cheato grows like krazy.


Unless you plan to keep things in there.

just an idea. its 12 bucks for the lamp vs 50 for a PC lamp.

that is so awesome! i had a 2.5 gallon fuge that sat ontop of the sump running for a bit.. but it just got inthe way. looks like ur not running the closed loop any more.. any reason? and we DEFFINITY need updated FTS's =]

MandM, Yep
So just one of the overflows takes a quick detour through the fuge then down to the sump.

Nu2SW, Halegens get HECKA HOT though. Was hoping for PC because of the temp difference, and it will spread the light across the tank better for equal growing.

sumyungviet, Yeah i was running a small "fuge" in the left side of the sump but was just not enough to control the nitrates with the tank load.
So I decided to up the ante on the fuge to a full 10Gs seperate tank.

About the closed loop, I can't seem to find a quiet enough closed loop pump that does not leak.
The Mag 5s leak, I have had 4 (Yes 4) mag 5's on the tank and everyone of them have leaked, and they are too loud anyways and click too much.

anyone have a good recomendation on an external QUIET NON LEAKING pump?

I'm also now worried about adding another pump until I get the chiller on the tank running, It's a bear to keep the heat down on it right now.

yea the mag was a little loud for me too.. you could imagin why it was only on during the day.. so that i could sleep at night. =]

ahhh, I will take a full tank shot tomorrow or sunday.
Because I just added the LS with the fuge, the tank is cloudy as all heck.

I'll wait till the smoke clears before I take any shots.

Also I'm curing some LR that's going to be added in the next month or so, so the tank will be completely re-aquasacped anyways.

If you need a light for the fuge, I think I have a couple laying about I can give you. I am not sure on the sizes, but I can try to dig them out tomorrow if you like. The bulbs are hit or miss, but for free, the price is right!

Steve, found a couple. One has twin AquGlo fluorescent - approx 18" long and independently switched - bulbs work! Its yours if you would like it.
