Adding a 2nd L-Simu Stick on a splitter

Hi Michael. I hooked up an L-Stick on my Plus II a few weeks ago; it's on L3/4. Worked fine; even ran a nightly storm.

Tonite I added a second stick to the system, and it's not going real smooth.

- I programmed each stick individually on L3/4.
- When I run each bulb in the L port, they look fine.
- However, when I run them with the splitter, the color is off.... the red LEDs are on, even though in my programs they should be off.
- also, if a storm is enabled, the flashes are strange... very slow, with periods of the tank being blacked out for 1-2 seconds.

Ok, I'll take another bashing... what am I doing wrong now? :)

P.S. The splitter is not directly plugged into the Profilux... a YL2-2.5 extension is plugged into the unit, which then goes to the splitter.

A Simu-L uses two channels, so it will use both L3-L4, what do you have the red programmed to?

This is normal, the flashes build up and ebb back down over time.

Why are you plugged into a YL2-2.5 then YL2-1? If trying to extend you require a VSL cable.

If still unsure drop me an email to sales@aqua-digital.com

Michael,
I have 4 simu sticks.
2 ProfiLuxSimu-L flash Stick and 2 ProfiLuxSunrise-L Stick.
Would you recommend me NOT using the splitter cables and using expansion cards instead?
Bear in mind I haven't set up any part of my controller yet.
My new tank should be here in a few days.
Thank you,
Sean

You can use splitters but you must only split the same product style

Example

L1 L2 = Simu-L x 2 split

L3L4 = Sunrise-L x 2 Split

The problem I noticed is that the Simu-Lsticks are Not calibrated
the same (nor is there a function to calibrate them).

So when you run them on a spliter they will not 100% sync up,
you will find spots where the white ledswil be on, on one stick
and not on the other etc.

The solition from Profilux is to use multiple LPorts but as far as I
know you only have 10 L ports total. If you start running Tunze
pumps dimmable T-5s fan or cooling units you run out of them pretty quick.

I believe it is 10

I currently use 6 (2 for T-5's, 2 for Simu-L sticks, & 2 for Tunze pumps)

I'm thinking about using 2 more pumps, and wanted to split up
the lighting a bit more so I can easily hit the 10 and that leaves
no room for a chiller of fan controller.

They go quick

The total of 10 is achieve with the Ex upgrade and an 4 port expansion card!
I believe that you could add more in a near future but is probably limited by the software at this point in time! Like 2 4 port card in the profilux!

Michael, that's exactly how I am using the splitter:

ProfiLux L-port 3/4 ---> 2.5m cable ----> splitter ---> 2x L-Stick

The color and dimming is working fine, but just the storms are strange. When I ran one stick, I saw flashes that looked like real lightning. Now, instead of a flash, the tank goes black for mnearly 2 seconds, the a flash that lasts for a full second. Looks more like my Christmas tree than a storm.

I'll post some settings.

Here's some screen shots. Folks who have done this, I am open to any suggestions!!!

and finally, the L Interfaces:

as I said in my email, please program your LED's flash in the 1-10 V interface page so they react the same.

Best wishes
Michael

Michael, are you refrencing the options found by clicking on the "Program LED lamp" button? If so, yes, that was done. No change.

So, just to be sure, I went the "Program LED lamp" button again and programmed both sticks the same ("react to all flashes" and "deep blue moonlight"). Started a storm manually with only one stick into the splitter and all was cool. As soon as I added the second stick, everything slowed down again.

For anyone who wondered what happened to this issue: it is resolved! I took the advice of Matthias and swapped out the 2.5 meter cable for a 1 meter cable. Voila! Solved. Thanks!
