Hey all,

I have a sump with a fuge in it right now but its rather small (the fuge that is). I want to move the sump to the other side of the wall and place in the adjacent closest. On top of this i want to add either a 10g or a 40g fuge. I dont know what tank im gonna use atm. I have included a diagram in the below thread. I was curious as to what, if anything do i need to account for. I dont want to go in half cocked on this cuz i want to get it right the first time. Has anyone seen a thread on adding external fuges? If you can help me out i would appreciate it. Thanks.

Looks reasonable, a 40g refuge is big but if you have the room, go for it. As the other guy said, just be sure your water level is not too high just like in your sump.
I would recommend a second drain in case cheato or something blocks the primary.
If you light the fuge for growing cheato or sea grass you can then keep the sump clean and unlit, that will keep coralline from growing on your reactors and skimmer.

If I had to do it this way, I'd go main tank to sump, and sump back to main tank. And then fuge to sump, sump back to fuge. Basically running the fuge separate from the main and not having to connect all three tanks in series.

I'm not sure if this would work better but this is how I would do it.

Just my 2 cents.

I LOVE the way my system is set up..
Overflow from the tank is done with two overflows in the back (At the same level)

Then one overflow dumps straight to the sump.
The other overflow dumps to a slightly raised 10G fuge tank (Would have gone 20 if it would have fit)
Then the fuge has an overflow that dumps back to the sump.

Much like you show it in your pics but only 50% of my return water on my 30 goes through the fuge.

I explained it on the TT ;)

Because you have such a larger tank I would not run 100% of your return water through the fuge..
IT would be like a whirl pool in there...

Rob from underwaterparadise made a good point and i think im going to do it. He suggested that i T it off coming from the MT and have 50% goin into the sump and 50% goin into the fuge. I will then gravity feed the fuge into the sump since its on a shelf higher than the sump. This is going to eliminate the need for a new pump. Im doing it this weekend so i hope it works lol.

Good thoughts all. Steve, you are going to need to build a baby gate pretty soon, don't want little fingers (or heads) in that setup. :D
I still need to baby proof my cabinet now that the grand baby is walking. (!)
