Hello all, I would like to add 4 Threadfin Anthias to my 180. Current fish are as follows

Achillies Tang
Regal Blue Tang
2 False Perc's
Firefish
Unknown Fairy Wrasse(quite peaceful)

Anyone out there thing I will have problems with compatibility? Thanks!!

Patrick

Go ahead and put them in, they won't give them a hard time. What anthias were you thinking of?

I think I am going with Carberryi Anthias (Nemanthias carberryi), although the lytetails are beautiful also :). In your opionion will 4 be too many, not enough or just enough? Thanks!

Patrick

I have a 125, and i was thinking about adding 3-4 of the lyretail anthias. My only concern is my sohal tank that fairly aggressive to new tankmates. Are the anthias strong enough to stand their own for a couple of days.

Thanks

Nick

Hey Patrick,
just make sure they are eatign at the store befor eyou buy them, Carberry usually are finicky eaters.
Nick,
if you have a sohal tang in your 125 i would not ad any fish in theri until you get that fish out of there, they are way too agressive and will kill your anthias IMO.

Thanks Julio, I'll do that. If the Sohal tang will harass the Anthia's, won't the Achillies be a problem also? I thought they were one of the more aggressive tangs....

Achilles will only display to yoru anthias, Sohals on the other hand will not stop, the only way to get the sohal to stop and slow him down is by feeding the tank every time he goes after the fish, if they survive the first week then they have a very good chance. Fish will go after other fish becasue they think they are a threat to their food supply.

Well I feed a modified mix of Eric B's blender mush...has squid, mysis, clam, nori, flake, octo, krill, and silversides...will they go for this right off the bat or should I try live brine first? I don't have a source to buy live mysis but I have plenty living in the tank.

you dont' have to feed live mysids. One thing that has always worked great for me in the past has been fish roe, such as that sold at sushi stores.

I am in the process of putting together a 58 gallon reef for my wife, i have thought about placing the sohal in that tank for a few weeks and adding some livestock to my 125 and then placing the sohal back in the 125. Do you think that will work. She has not bothered anyone that was already in the tank when she was added. I really did not plan on getting the sohal when i did, it just kind of fell in my lap and my 125 was a better home than her previous one.

I would leave him in the 58 for a few months rather than weeks since anthias will be a bit shy at first and will take a few months to fully get establish in their environment.

I don't think my wife would like me using the tank I am setting for up for her( she really thinks it is for her :D ) for a couple of months. I wonder if there are any fish that will establish themselves quicker than anthias.

they like it, in nature they hang out in the current waiting for Plankton to come at them.

Thanks Julio!

I notice in your sig that you like Poison Frogs too. I have a couple set ups but I guess that'd be a topic for another thread! :D

Well the Anthia's are in, and I guess I'll chalk this one up to my Achillies personality. He's a MEAN SOB. One Anthia had to be rushed into the tank, as I was acclimating him he launched out of the bag and into my sump. I had to catch him quickly and add him to the display, so he didn't end up as fish food ground up by my return pump. I do not quarantine, that's a different story. The lights were out and I had fed the heck out of my tank all morning. Well not 5 seconds after getting released into the tank, the Achillies went after him with a vengeance. While acclimating the other fish he chased him right out of the tank, as the egg crate cover was off at the time. I did not hear or see him jump out, found him dead on the floor :(. The behavior continued for some time after I released the others, and has seemed to lessen a bit. Actually, all the fish pick on these guys. It's like a ladder, the Achillies chases the Hippo, the hippo chases the blue sided wrasse, and he chased no one until the anthia's arrived. They are very skittish, but I have been able to feed them, frozen krill, blender mush and flake....the food must be very small though or they don't touch it. So that's my story!! All in all, I feel everything should be OK, and I have to say the fish are stunning!
