adding pop to tank alternatives to powerbrites?

Blurry, I see you have seen the powerbrites and this light. Now on my 120g I have 3 powerbrights spread across 48'' and I love it,the mood it sets for night lighting is perfect..plus my nights are only on for 4 hours a night..

How is the brightness of these lights compared to the powerbrites??These lights seem very bright and expensive for 4 hours a night of moonlight lighting..

thanks..

I run mine 12 hours a day. dusk/dawn transition and while the halides are on. makes my 14K phoenix look even better :) For moonlights I have the MLC unit from DA.

I've seen both, though not side by side. you offering to bring over your powerbrites? I'll provide beer and a tank :)

I believe the reefbrites to be brighter, but a showdown is needed :bounce3:

The Reefbrites are much brighter than Powerbrites. The color is slightly different, though (in a good way). The ReefBrites don't have optics (mini reflectors) which may hinder the ability to add shimmer, especially when T5s are on. Todd- I think you'd really like a RB! :D

PS- I have talked with several LFS owners in WNY so I'm sure you will soon see the Reefbrite LEDs for sale locally.

Running just the blue reefbrite on my cube and I have a ton of blue shimmer. This light really is something else. Now I just wish I knew if the white model can or will run a tank with a clam and some SPS?

Johnny you spoke with a rep at macna? Did they say either way or give you some Par numbers? Just don't want to lay out the cash only too find out they can't do it... Thanks...

I didn't mean that you won't have shimmer when using RB's. What I meant was that one differences between RB & PB LEDs are that one uses optics to create a narrow "beam" of light (which enhances the shimmer effect) versus a wider spread that will cover more areas of the tank. Are you guys saying that you can notice an intense shimmer with RBs, even when your T5's are on? If so, that's awesome! Most LED strips cannot accomplish that.

Dave- I didn't ask the company owner about PAR values, but I do know that they make a rack that holds 5 or 6 in an effort to support an entire reef aquarium. With that being said, I would imagine what you'd like to do is possible. Once I get my hands on some I will be sure to post PAR measurements! :)

I really want to see a set of these in action. they look great in picture's i can only imagine what there like in person.

Mine shimmer when by themselves And with the halides... Then again that isn't fair :)

Johnny I'm thinking that using 5 or 6 would not be very cost effective because of the price of these units. I just know how much one 15" inch bar on my 18" inch cube shows up. It covers the entire cube and quite the wow factor for the price. So I was hoping another 15" all white Led would supply the cube. Of course I need to have actual data to support that prior to purchase. I'm sending off an email now to the owner...

I'll post the results..

I picked up some powerbrites on clearance for another application where the lights are mounted several feet up from the tank compared to the powerbrite bar which is about a foot over my display.

IMHO the reefbrite is way nicer. the spread is nice and smooth, lights up the whole tank. With the powerbrites it is too focused for my liking. to get good coverage you need to get [I'm guessing] 5 feet up or have a whole bunch of them ($$$$$$$).

the pro to the powerbrites is the blue is not quite as blue if you don't like blues.

seems to me that current should have changed the optics on the powerbrites and they would have had [another] hot seller on their hands. as far as I'm concerned they just lost the market to reefbrite.

i should do a side by side over christmas break...
