Adee's new build

Love the movie, wish it was full lenth, sound track also rocks. Did not realise that you are on RC. Wish I was able to see it in person. That clip rocks.

Howdy man, yah RC was the 1st forum I joined many years back...

This was my first attempt at adding sound to a vid...trying to keep the size small...u know how the bandwidth in SA sucks.

summer is back!

summer is back!

So decided to remove my un-natural light fitting (3x 400w's)....we having a hectic heatwave as well here in Jozi for the last couple of days...corals have now enjoyed their last days of being shaded by the lighting unit.

Adee's Angels

Adee's Angels

Ok, so not my best pics...the angels are still very camera shy, they been socializing for about 2 months with each other, also getting them to all feed on Ocean Nutrition pellets. Once I catch the Powder Blue, will move all three angels to the main display tank...they not as bold as the tangs when fighting for pellets, though the two convict tangs that they share space with in the frag tank, are the fattest tangs I've ever seen!

How do you cool this beast of a tank, chiller? I also noticed you have a window open near the tank but you said you were having a heat wave. Also is this room air conditioned too seems like that would be hard to do considering all the natural light coming into the room. I would love to have a natural lit tank but have always thought heat would be a problem. Love your tank.

Beautiful reef Adee, very natural looking. One of my favourite setups on RC, good luck with the angels.

Thanks Baros

Thanks Paul. Yes I have a 1 h/p chiller situated outside in a brick enclosure. I also have a fan that blows onto my algae scrubber. Temp does not top 29, also did not hear the chiller come on....heat is easier to controll if the windows and doors are left open, otherwise if the doors and windows are semi-closed, does then put strain on the chiller. So I really only stress when no-one is at home to monitor things for me. I've thought about an air-con in there....but would need a massive one.

Wow! Natural lighting is so much more enjoyable to look at than the freak-show blue and purple stuff some people go for. Can't wait to see that navarchus in the main tank. I'm sure he'll be a real show-stopper!

Thanks Dave, that makes two of us...going to make a plan to move the angels to the display tank, hopefully this week...need to catch the powder blue first. The PB is a bit of a bully, all the angels are feeding well on the pellets...so its time.

I am still in awe of your tank. is there any supplemental lighting used in the winter?

fabulous growth!!!

Carl
Thany you Carl. Yes, for about 5 months of the year...a 3x 400w setup. Although I should have taken the unit off after 4 months as even with the halides on, the unit was shading corals when the sun was shining from above.

The rate of growth you've achieved is insane!!!

How come you got frags in the DT? Too much growth in Prop tank??

May I know what you're keeping alk etc at?

Thanks!

Hi Bello..thanks!

The frags in the DT are all going to another reefer. For some reason the hermits in the DT do a better job of cleaning up the frag plugs than the ones I got in the prop tank...also I don't get to trade these by mistake to someone else :o prop tank is also too full at the mo...

Alk is at around 6.5 - 7.5, Ca is 400-420, Mg 1200-1300

PO is 0.00 (Hanna Phosphate Checker), No3 is undectable (Salifert)....all in all I try and maintain the system as stable as possible with my totally "old school, no-fuss-at-all" filtration methods that consisits of:
Massive chaeto ball
500kg's Live rock
massive DSB
Huge ATS
two big skimmers
