Adjusting Deltec skimmers?

Hi all
I have a Deltec AP 851 on the way to replace my ASM G-4x with a burnt out pump. I have not seen the skimmer yet, but I downloaded and read through the instruction Manuel. When it comes to setting the water height inside the skimmer, I understand you use a ball valve to adjust the flow of the exhaust. I plan to plumb the skimmer off my overflow to feed it. The problem I have with this is it seem to me like I might have a problem with surging. The water flow from my overflow is not really consistent. It comes in bursts, then slows down, then comes in another burst. This would cause the water level in the skimmer to constantly rise and fall, which would reduce the skimming efficiency. With the ASM I just set the water high by adjusting the riser tube. I found that surging wasn't a problem, but with the Deltec (which is supposedly a much better skimmer) I foresee a few problem with regards to surging. I was hoping someone who understands the Deltec skimmers better than I do could chime in and give me some advice. thanks!

Is the surging due to using a Durso standpipe?
If there is nothing you can do with the surge then there will be problems with the Deltec. You may have to feed from a pump.

It could be from the durso. Click on my little red house if you want to see how my overflow is set up. What size pvc does the skimmer's standpipe use? also what size is the intake? is the intake threaded or socket?

Argh..you have a Durso!!! The flushing is easy to solve (thats why I asked if you had one!)
Make the air intake hole bigger in the top of the standpipe. No more flushing. Problem solved (hopefully!):D
