It's Dr. Goodluck Himself
Stopped by a store I'd heard of but never been in when eyed it in a strip mall after having my emissions testing done in Schaumburg.

:eek::hmm4:

No bueno.

Large store with many tanks. Lots of coral. But you can't see it what with all the hair algae, diatoms, cyano and, well, you get the idea. Appears no tank maintenance has been attempted in many years.

yup......dump......

amazing that they must live off of outside maintance contracts, yet can't maintain their own tanks....or worse. ..don't care to do so....

Been there a couple times, they are a bit pricey. Glen is a great guy, and is very knowledgeable. I have mixed reviews on this place.

I'm personally offended by this place, may be I'm sensitive but let me know if I'm over thinking this.
When I visited this place for the first time (the last as well) there was a bus with other reeferes visiting from Wisconsin that pulled up. They had signs of 50% off live stock & so I end up getting a couple of fish. When I get to the counter Glen was pretty blunt saying I will not be getting the discount & it is only for the people on bus tour & said you also come in with a big group & I will throw in some discount. He sounded very rude. Oh well anyways, the fish was bagged & sucker me walked out paying full price when there was another 20-30 people in the store getting 50% off on there order.

Were the signs clearly saying 50%? Was the "For out of towners" in tiny text? I would have tried for at least some kind of discount. He's a little stingy from my limited experience.

They had a meetup there a while ago, seemed fine.

There are a few shops in the area that have floating prices depending on the buyer. They tend not to post prices on anything alive and decide on the spot what to charge.

That is really shady IMHO.

Been there. A store was having a deal for something like $10 a head for Acans. I asked the owner how much a particularly nice one was with 4-5 heads, he told me $100, I reminded him of the sale and he scurried away with the line, "if you knew how much, why did you ask".

I would have walked out WITHOUT the fish.......if the 50%off sale was for the WI group only, then he should have had the doors closed to the public and made it a "Private Event" for his WI group..... then I would have drove to Beyond the Reef and AA.....lol

I hate this practice. Back in Knoxville we always listed prices. This was as much for the owner as the client. When we first took over the store we had one of our best clients complaining about the prices I was charging them. I found this surprising as I always gave them more than fair prices, and erred on under charging vs over. We found out our manager would add on to the price for the customers that paid cash and pocket the difference. From then on, I posted all prices on the tanks and if the customers had a question I spoke with them directly.

Exactly the way I felt. He should have just kept a private party invited only sale. Oh well, I certainly don't like to deal with him in the future.

Place used to have nice corals a long time ago, but they have always had a little bit of different attitudes towards different people. I think it has to do with how big they perceive your wallet to be.

Hey Joel! just missing everyone. Getting closer to being done with my renovations to the house so I am thinking i might start some sort of reef up again. Think ill start coming around more....

Jose search on threads I started. Take a look at the long one you will know which one I mean. It all began, oddly, when that clam I got from you croaked....
