Advice on Maxspect LED systems

Hello all. I've been out of reef keeping a few years, just long enough to be confused by all the choice in LED lighting systems. My new tank is a modest 30 gal with a 20 gal sump. I would like to raise LPS, SPS, and some softees again. So far I am pretty impressed with the Maxspect Razor line. Any advice on the best Maxpect unit for this requirement? Besides being able to keep the coral properly, my interest is hopefully not having the so called "spotlight effect" with dark corners. My budget is also limited to around 400 bucks. Thanks!

I got a razor max spec it was $420 and its simply amazing I just got it a month ago I deff recommend it!!

Thanks Steve. I don't want a purple tank either. I'm thinking about the 10k model and hoping the ratio of blue to warmer colors is sufficiently adjustable.

that fella goes to every thread about razor mentioned its purple, and i don't see much people mentioning it being purple. wonder who's the problem.

Anyway, heres a pic of a 27" fixture 160w 16k on a 48x24x14".

A:70%B:100%. in what way is this purple? i have NEVER seen razor making a tank purple before.

Its making your rocks pretty purple:uhoh3:

I have the razor above my 29 and a nano razor above my 15. Just purchased another 120 because I'm upgrading to a 90g. It does not look purple. Corals look and grow quite well. I've had issues with my white balance when taking photos (can make it look purple) but that's an entirely different issue. (More pics in the links)

It looks very purple if you're used to halides or other full spectrum fixtures. It also makes bright red coral look a bit dull and green corals look a bit too neon.

Source: I owned a 27" 16k Razor for 4 months and also ran 15-20k halides on another tank.

+1

The purple effect can be eliminated by turning down the blue and or increasing the white.

Your photo does look purple. But again, this is not an issue with the lights. (Its the white-balance setting on your camera)

I agree with the white balance thing. If the light were only purple, the sand bed would appear purple instead of white. I am planning to keep my light suspended, to make tank access a lot easier. My former tank was 36 in. deep and I couldn't reach the sand without sticking half my face (and glasses) in the water. This will be much better, no doubt :). My plan is to either build a three sided tank top surround to block the excess light, or to make a "skirt" for the same purpose if the suspended height makes a tank top thing impractical. As much as I like good lighting, I don't want to have to shield my eyes to view the critters. Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

nice tanks!

nice tanks!

Ssteal.... Great looking tanks. Well, i'm sold. Maxspect seens to do the job. The only question now is how high to suspend the light for the best coverage. Thanks for the great pix!
