advice please clowns & anemones

i have a bubble tip anemone and what the bloke in the LFS said a green anemone. now i have a black and white tank breed clown and a nemo tank breed clown both about the same size, 2 inches max, will either of these anemones host either fish. i have noticed the nemo clown having a good look at the BTA the last few days. The LFS said the black and white one would most likely go to the green anemone, but it doesnt seem interested at all. have i picked the wrong fish for the job.
would like to hear from anyone who can shed some light on the situation.

is it a green carpet anemone?

is it in your Red Sea Max?

to properly identify the clowns and anemones we need PICTURES

if you use www.photobucket.com to host the pictures that would really help....

no ist not a carpet anemone, it looks the same as the bright white with blue tip anemones that i have seen in the LFS
they are in my red sea max,
when i figure out how to put pics up here i will be able to show you. ( im not real good with computers )

well its pretty easy to upload the photos you could email them to me if its easier then ill put them up for you :)

Google: LTA and M. Dorensis tell me if that is what you have.
if not its probobly a green bubble tip.

the white and blue tips your talking about a H. crispa
all very different.
 
Sometimes tank bread clowns don't have anything to do with anemones. If you want to make sure your clown will live in an anemone buy a wild caught one. Most of them are not to picky about the anemone they live in. It is nice though to pair them up as it would be done in the wild.

thats just not true there is no science behind it clownfish have lived in anemones for thousands of years it is in their instincts as much as motherhood for a dog is.
 
You don't need science here. There are tank raised clowns that don't care if there is an anemone in the tank with it or not. I may be able to understand your point if i had said that NO tank raised clowns would live in an anemone, but this is not what I said. I personally have see this for myself. It is common knowlage at my LFS. You are the first person I have ran into that disputes this fact. I wish you were right here, but your not.
 
clownfish have evolved to do exactly one thing. live in anemones. if you breed them in a tank they do not forget that
 
I'll check the tally later today. I am interested in hearing what people have to say about this. I can't be the only one on RC that has seen this.
 
i have worked out how to put photos up for all to see,
here is the anemone in question (the green one).
can anyone tell me if i have picked a nemo freindly anemone.

false percs will host in a BTA. I just put two in my 29 gallon Saturday and they both started hosting in my BTA's within a couple hours.
 
well you seem to have a nice anemone there .
it's going to be hit and miss on if your clowns will host.
like everyone elts has said SOME tank raised clowns just dont care to be in an anemone.

this is just not true you will never ever ever ever ever find a percula or ocellaris clownfish hosting a BTA in the wild it is not their natural host. if you provide them with their natural host anemone they will always host.



never would a percua or ocellaris refuse to host an H. Magnifica or a gigantea
 
OK it seems that GSMguy is the clown whisperer here so i will leave it up to him to tell you how to care for your clowns and anemones.
being that he seems to know it all. i say this because he has disagreed with just about everything anyone else has said on this subject.
so I'll leave it at that .
 
since puting up the photo of the anemone it has decided it was not happy were i put it.it has disapeared into the live rock caves so i guess im left with the bubble tip as a maybe host.

IMO they are both bubble tips. The anemone that's crawled into the rocks may yet come out when it's more comfortable in your tank.
Your clowns may or may not host these anemones. My opinion is that they will host it eventually, but it may take them a while to get used to your anemones as a host.

MIREEFER, he's disagreed with like 3 people...calm down please. Kthx. This thread isn't about getting revenge for someone disagreeing with you in another thread...it had a purpose once, remember? Let's get back to it.
